As a strong minded, independent, intelligent modern woman, I should have hated this book but I didn't. To me, books like this are the fast food of the literary world. Full of over the top energy, very little quality substance, yet they leave you feeling oddly satisfied and in the end they are kind of more-ish.

On my Nook this was a 180 page short story. The book was just okay. It was to short for much character development. The story was a simple quick read.

Jude Patterson is a sexy but shy romance novelist who discovers the flowery language he's always used in historical love scenes doesn't translate well to contemporary romances. Alyssa Stone is a beautiful fan who offers to help him learn to write better love scenes.

Jude is fascinated by Alyssa, whose confident and sensual demeanor conceals a very vulnerable interior. Before long, he's the one showing her how to write love scenes... and maybe even how to write happy endings… (mere)

The romantic plot of a couple who wanted each other in high school and then connect years later has been done before. However, Seeing Spots takes a different twist. Darren (Dare) is a hunk, and Kathy wanted him from the moment she first saw him in high school. However, she was the geeky valedictorian, while he was the jock who dated cheerleaders. She knew he'd never look at her twice.

A decade later, the two meet when Dare asks Kathy to design his company's website. It turns out he's just as insecure as she is. He's attracted to her, but what would an educated woman see in a dyslexic guy who struggled to get through high school? As they meet to discuss business, Kathy notices Dare is extra attentive when she's wearing leopard spots. Before long, she has a plan to make him see spots any time they're together....

This was a really fun story. I loved the way Dare acted whenever he saw spots. It was quirky and cute. What I din't like was how the author brought a paranormal twist to the ending. It was like the first bite of something sweet, and then having it leave a really bad aftertaste. It's a surprise I didn't expect or enjoy. It should have been left as-is: cute, hunky, and yet deep-down insecure guy has a fetish for leopard print. No big deal...a lot of guys think leopard print is sexy. There was no need to try to justify it.
