Based on the title of this book, I though that I would learn about the mindset of an NFL quarterback. Feinstein wasted too many chapters recapping the 2017 season.

I enjoyed reading this as a casual golf fan. I knew some of Feherty’s past from other interviews I’ve seen and his interview show. I did think the book was slightly repetitive and could have been a little shorter. If you’re a golf fan, I think you could enjoy reading it. Thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Books for the advance reader copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

John Feinstein spent the year going on the road to the lessor known schools that play NCAA Division 1 basketball. These are schools where the games are played to smaller crowds. The gyms seat somewhere between 2,500 to 5,000 fans. Teams are usually not on television regularly and the team have one shot to make the big dance in March. Feinstein allows the players, coaches and the stadiums shine.

“Foul Trouble”. Words that I hear way too often as a basketball player. When I first picked this book up it was intended to be a joke for the basketball team and me. I am our starting post and the starter of our team “foul jail’. Hell, I was probably averaging 3 fouls per game. The book was interesting. The book relates to any athlete wanting to go to do something with their career in the future. It gives suitable life lessons and tons of suspense. The book was mainly about a coming-of-age adolescent named Terrell who is exceptionally good at basketball; he is “attacked” by many different colleges to pursue him into attending their school to play basketball. All of which are promising money and fame, it is up to Terrell to figure out who to trust and what choice will be the best for him.

I recommend this book because I can relate to it, it gives a good lesson, and it’s an excellent way to warn young readers about the struggles of growing up. Like Terrell, it is coming to a point in my life where I have to decide what I’m going to do with my future. Thankfully though, I'm only a sophomore at the time so I get a little more time. This book also gives good life lessons, like knowing who your real friends are and who’s just trying to pawn off you. For example, Terrels best friend, Danny, was someone who he could always trust. On the other hand, there is a group of people, who Danny refers to “as the guys” who claimed to be Terrells’ friends but as soon as he got hurt “the guys” were nowhere to be seen. Lastly, this book can give readers a good idea of what it will be like as they grow older. Younger people watching this can be warned of what can change and the kind of rash decisions to avoid.

I truly enjoyed this book but it was a little too fast-paced for my preference. Some may find it boring if it takes too long to move on from a subject in a book, but I really like a book if it goes into depth since it gets annoying or hard to understand if there are too many time skips. So although it’s fast-paced for me, it’s still a great read with valuable life lessons, relatable content, and even a bit of comedy.
