My Appalachia is a memoir by Sidney Saylor Farr. Sidney Saylor Farr grew up in a remote holler in rural Kentucky. Her family worked hard to survive - she said her mother rarely had a free moment. Forced to quit school at eleven and married at fifteen, Sidney had a tough childhood. Her accounts of her childhood are fascinating and hard to comprehend. She loved to read and had a thirst for knowledge and after years of hard work, she graduated from Berea College. She is now considered an expert on Appalachian life. When I picked up this book, I was expecting an autobiography, and while this book does have some autobiographical elements to it, a lot of it is just random memories. I found some parts of the book fascinating, some parts rambling, some parts repetitive, and some parts (the New Age stuff) a little strange, but overall, I did enjoy it.… (mere)
