I'm genuinely captivated by this exquisitely illustrated book. Paula Faris, the author, has masterfully reframed the conventional query of "What do you want to do when you grow up?" into a profound exploration of "Who do you want to be?" This shift in perspective underscores the idea that our identity transcends the roles we occupy. It's a reminder that we tend to define individuals solely by their professions, often overlooking their deeper qualities.
This book encourages us to ponder the question, "Who am I?" as opposed to the more conventional, "What am I?" It's a query that carries profound value in understanding our true selves and the essence of our existence.
The enchanting illustrations crafted by Bhagya Madanasinghe add an extra layer of beauty to the narrative, making it a delightful visual and intellectual experience. This book isn't just for personal enjoyment; it's also an excellent choice for reading aloud in a classroom or sharing with family.
Many thanks to the author and Library thing for an opportunity to read.

I received this book as part of the LibraryThing EarlyReviewer program and it is excellent. A class is asked what do they want to do when they grow up, but the main character realizes through the course of the book that they can do many things, but what matters is who they are as a person. The illustrations are fun, detailed, and interesting and the main characters are nonwhite. A great book overall and an excellent message. And my 7 year old liked it!

This is a great premise for a children's book! While it's good to introduce kids to a variety of community careers and to help them think about their own interests and skills, it's also so important to be mindful of who they will be (without the focus on their future job).

Instead of thinking WHAT you want to be when you grow up, think about the kind of person you want to be! Gives a new spin on the age old question. Good book and good illustrations.
