Overall I really enjoyed this book, Darwin was complex and has a lot to deal with emotionally with her past. Everything played out seamlessly, and all of the characters were well developed. I felt that the book drug on a bit too long, towards the end of the book I found myself thinking "get to the point already, it's time to reveal the killer" I also found it to be annoying that her backstory was referred too often but never discussed. Why give all the clues without letting us know the whole story? Leads to false buildup, and took me out of the story a few times. Since this is only book one, I will assume all will be revealed in good time. LOL… (mere)

This book may be for you if you like yoga, dogs, Florida, people who are stuck surrounded by entitled rich people and a predictable plot with some Euro-xotic romance thrown in. But I did find the portrayal of the protagonist's anxiety attacks somewhat compelling.

I simply could not put this book down. It is a fast-paced story and does not become boring as some mysteries can. You know just enough about the characters and their past to understand their present. The story keeps you guessing at every twist and turn, and you think you know who did it but you find out at the next chapter that you did not. I would love to read more by this author. By the way this story also has a little bit of paranormal.

Safia Raine has a gift: she can see right into the human body and evaluate what's wrong. When a 14 year old girl comes into her hospital, Safia diagnoses a tumour. But that isn't the only thing she finds. Then come revelations that shake not just the scientific community but the whole world, and test humanity's compassion, and the very definition of "human."

The great title and interesting premise drew me to this book, but it was the clear writing and honest development of the ideas that kept me reading. This is "science fiction with heart" at its best. Consequences are explored to every scientific and moral conclusion. The resolution is both realistic and satisfying.

One character, Anders Grey, just about ruined things for me. He was too perfect for the otherwise honest book, and his effect on Safia was antagonizing. But the fascinating ideas and questions each action raised were more than enough to keep me interested. I'm also very interested in whatever else the author writes.
