- A scholar of military history, he turned into a pacifist philosopher under the impressions of WW I and later joined into Freemasonry.
His dedication to pacifism, human rights and international understanding brought him in conflict with influential circles during the Weimar Republic. He emigrated to Switzerland before the Nazi Era.
Several of his works were indexed by the Nazi regime.
