Melodrama! Swashbuckling! Romance! The prettiest dresses! Very much up my alley.

I enjoyed the art, but wish the colors had had the same vibrancy as the cover art. I feel like color in general is tricky when it comes to this very traditional style of American comics illustration (which presumably has a name! I just do not happen to know it). The delicate inking mean that the line and color sometimes feel like they're fighting against one another. Maybe I'm just not used to seeing this kind of art these days - I had the same issue with Pretty Deadly.… (mere)

I was slightly underwhelmed by the conclusion, which felt contrived at times, but still enjoyed this a whole lot.

It occurs to me that there are not nearly enough fluffy romances in American comics. "I wear all the pretty dresses and am protected by a tragic yet handsome warrior who would sacrifice everything for me" has a very primal appeal that apparently I am not immune to. What's more, seeing a dark-complexioned black woman in this role was so refreshing and rel="nofollow" target="_top">reminded me of this smart Tumblr thread. It turns out I really enjoy damsels in distress as they're the heroes of their own stories. Female gaze ftw!

I do wish we'd had more character development for Cyrenic, mostly because he is cute as heck. But Poppy is such a great character and I don't regret any time spent with her (AND HER DRESSES, DID I MENTION HER DRESSES).… (mere)

I like Yara Flor as a character, and the art is pretty darn good throughout, but the storytelling in this collection, while aspiring to be zany and energetic, just comes off as a sloppy, slapped-together train wreck. I still like the Future State: Wonder Woman chapters I had read in a previous collection, but the rest was a chore to read as characters jumped all over or disappeared or did things just 'cuz.
