Adrian Carton de Wiart (1880–1963)

Adrian Carton de Wiart was an adventurer, at least that is the vision presented to us in his memoirs. A picture of the Norway campaign is delivered, with some editorial content. After Norway, he was employed mostly in diplomatic activities, and eventually was dueling Stillwell on behalf of the Commonwealth in Nationalist China. Entertaining if not always verifiable.

Adrian Carton de Wiart was a complete mad-man, uncommonly courageous, and strikingly modest. He never once even metions winning the VC in his memoir. Worth a read just for the part where he rips off his own fingers so he can get back to the front lines faster.
