See my comments for Trusting Cade. This is just as good, but I'm leaving off a half star because I thought the portrayal of Cade was a touch histrionic here...

I liked your comment below Carol420. I had to look twice when I saw this cover, as the publisher's idea of Braden. It wasn't what I was expecting! Yet as I kept looking at this guy - he could very well be Braden. He has an ethereal beauty, a sweetness, a fragility and strength - not to mention the straight blond hair, the light frame, the flawless skin. This "look" also explains the instant and total attraction that slays Cade, the macho mushy special forces giant.… (mere)

Because I read a lot of romance - relationship focussed novels sounds like a better descriptor here, I'm intrigued when a novel throws up something a little different.

What struck me about Trusting Cade:

1. it's highly romantic. Cade aka Zavier McCade is soooo open hearted and forthright when he meets Braden, he announces that he's very interested in him from the get-go! He begins demonstrating this by applying his tremendous mental and physical skills, his emotional intelligence, his every waking hour, to looking after Braden. Cade usually dates guys like him - special forces, etc. Braden, a physically small, marathon running pastry chef who has type A diabetes, is not his "type".

No surprise Braden wonders what the heck is going on. There's absolutely no beating about the bush from Cade - it's kinda hilarious. He's in danger of overwhelming Braden, frightening him off.

It is a slow burn, as "Brae" comes to trust Cade - hence the fitting though unromantic title. Cade is supposed to be a taciturn type and at 38 he has no past relationship history that we hear about, so this is all new to him too, and out of character. He's determined to get it right.

2. The way Cade, and those around him, call Brae Cade's "boy" - it's very odd and jarring. I've not heard that before, at least not in such a major way as it is done here. It seems to be mimicking the way a girlfriend was referred to as "my girl" in the 1950s - as in, "Betty is my girl". You don't hear men and women referred to as boy or girl much any more - we've weeded it out of our speech. And then "boy" has that horrible connotation of what black men used to be called in the mid 20C.

3. The narrator is Tristan James. He has such a sing song flat voice! I don't dislike it but it doesn't mesh with the material - would seem more fitting narrating a crime novel perhaps?
(ASIDE: After writing this review, I read those below and the very first thing I read was Carol420's singling out Tristan James! Yes, he somehow really leaves his mark on this book. And BTW, I agree with all your comments!)

4. I won't spoil the story, but towards the end when Braden meets up with his abusive ex, it seems entirely implausible that he has forgotten that Braden is a diabetic, when it dominates his life completely. Braden's whole world is around managing his disease if he is to have as normal a life as possible. How could his once live-in boyfriend have forgotten that!!

5. When I'm enjoying an audiobook, spending time with its characters, I hate that it's going to come to an end -even though one is racing towards that end - if it is an involving read. It's a bitter sweet fact of life about reading novels. But with this novel, I REALLY didn't want it to end. The mix of the narrator's sing song voice and Cade's sweet devoted infatuation for Brae, it's hypnotic.

Got to go! - there's a follow up novel, Protecting Braden, and I've just pressed play!

Mateo...better known as Mattie, is best friends with his two former roommates, Liam and Carter, from the first book. We get to spend some time with them again throughout this book. It was also nice to meet and get to know Jake's younger brother, Josh. Mattie and Josh connected right off and became very good friends...adding to the sweetness of the story. Jake’s Nonna was an added addition also greeting and welcoming Mattie to her family. You knew right way that she was the glue and the heart that held what was left of Jake's family together. Mattie really did need lots of love and special nurturing. For Mattie love is his everything since he missed it entirely while growing up. As a result, he has a low thrash-hole for trust. Ever since the first book the boys have been together forming the perfect support group for each other and have become more than just friends. They stood by Mattie without question, His ex who was lower than dirt, had opened accounts in Mattie's name and bought expensive cars and other high-dollar things, leaving Mattie to work 3 jobs to pay for it all. Jake was exactly what Mattie needed to be able to breathe again. Jake was the most special nurturing daddy that Mattie could ever have hoped for. Luna David doesn't let her fans down with Jake and Mattie's story. While it was slightly different from the previous book it was equally as endearing and totally awesome.… (mere)

I was impressed with how Tommy went about finding Daddy Cash a new boy when he had to move on with his life. When Liam answered Tommy's inquiry on the kink club's website...me meet Liam. Liam hopes and wants to find his ultimate Daddy who will take care of him. When the opportunity came, he is prepared and ready.... driving 600 miles and then he is knocking at Daddy's door. Cash loved his boy, Tommy... but neither he nor Tommy were "IN love"... He did take care of his boy, but Tommy is now gone. A knock at Cash's door came at the wrong time.... but there stands Liam...a boy. who is calling him "Daddy" and Cash is so not amused and shuts the door in his face. Liam...who is devastated, returns to his car and is gone. What follows is their journey apart and their journey together. The story swam in circles around really awesome and "are you serious?" It took several, what I would consider as strange turns. When two people are so close and involved with each other I couldn't quite understand how Cash could not possibly see how he felt. It was illogical for me. Then the story gets better again. Cash and Liam both had very engaging personalities and made the entire story one very emotional ride. I'd have to say that overall, it was a worthwhile read...but there wasn't much kink, I'm looking forward to the next one.… (mere)
