DI Robert Carroll and his assistant James Sayder are sent to Magnerstown to investigate the death of the bodies found in Sundays Well.
Unfortunately I didn't like the awful character of Carroll or the sense of humour in the story. Very surprised that someone as inept as Carroll as a detective and a human being was still in the police.

I got this free. It wasn't very good. I'm not sure what to do with a "review". It doesn't seem fair to pan things that I get free.

Whatever, the idea was ok, but the execution wasn't so hot. None of the characters were particularly likable. I not sure they even behaved in a reasonable fashion. A lot of stuff seemed rather contrived. I'll not likely continue with this series.

Rarely does the genre see a detective so reluctant to do his job, and so easily outshined by their assistant. But Inspector Robert Carroll is a mess and held hostage by his own demons, so when bits of a human body turn up in the most unlikely of places, he has trouble getting out of bed to deal with it. Still, a crime must be solved, and someone will step up to the plate to do so.

There is a dark seam within this otherwise humorous and light-hearted caper by Anne Crosse, that mirrors the moody disposition of the main detective, DI Robert Carroll. He's not pleased to be sent back to Magnerstown, the scene of previous humiliation and jilting, to investigate a murder. And as the plot thickens, so does his temper. Some great banter between the detectives, this is a cosyish tale that will tickle fans of crime fiction.
