Enjoyable enough, but perhaps suffers in comparison following right after reading The Omnivore's Dilemma.

Neat, very engaging handbook/memoir on foraging food in the Pacific Northwest. Includes recipes. Very fish/seafood/mushroom oriented. Author also maintainsa comprehensive blog and teaches hands-on classes locally.

I liked this even better than "The Fat of the Land". Once I got started, it was such a compelling read. This is the story of the foragers who supply fresh mushrooms and other finds to fine restaurants, and Cook tackles the subject from many angles. He talks to the chefs, to the middleman buyers and most of all, to the secretive and tricky foragers, or at least to whoever will talk to him. It's fascinating.

UPSTREAM by Langdon Cook immerses readers in the world of wild salmon. From historical perspectives and environmental issues to salmon as food, this book provides a comprehensive and in-depth examination of salmon from many different perspectives. Of particular note are the sections exploring Native American perspectives and issues related to the balance between salmon as food and salmon as wildlife in need of protection. Cook brings the topic alike through short chapters that tell the stories of individuals with close connections to wild salmon.
