- Verena Conzett, née Knecht, born in Zurich, Switzerland, was a factory worker, women's rights activist, and one of the most important figures in the Swiss trade union movement of the late 19th century. She served as the first president of the Swiss Women's Workers Union (SAV), founded in 1890, and represented the SAV at the first Swiss Women's Congress in Geneva in 1896. That same year, she was voted a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Worker's Union. She wrote an autobiography, Erstrebtes und Erlebtes: Ein Stück Zeitgeschichte. The street Verena-Conzett-Strasse in Zurich is named in her honor.
