An all-time favorite; and it was necessary to buy a second copy because the first one was falling apart. The arrangements for piano are very beautiful; and I love Ardizzone's illustrations. There is hardly a song we haven't learned and added to our repertoire, even those sung in Welsh ... (we try ... ;-) ). First time I heard of Thomas Moore and love his poetry. Discovered John McCormack for listening to hitherto unknown tunes. Ahhh ....
What a GREAT book! I checked this out from the library all the time! I was always amazed it was in the library and that adults would sanction it! Too bad it's not the seventies still. I've heard this is no longer in print and would not be acceptable by today's prim and proper standards. There are all sorts of poems about naughty children that are SO funny. I think there's something in there about prank calls and yes, I made prank calls every weekend with my friend. Saturday afternoon entertainment in the days before caller ID and video games.… (mere)
Not a really top-flight collection of Punch cartoons, nor a complete roster of the artists (David Langdon is missing, e.g.), but a decent collection all the same.
