Renee has a wonderful way of writing poetically about the most squalid conditions. Her philosophical descriptions and insightful commentary weave throughout the narrative. When complications arise in her health, the reader is kept spell-bound wondering whether or not she will make it back to health before the goddess Kali claims her as the next victim in the cycle of reincarnation. A must read for travelers and armchair travelers alike.
