As a widow with a child to care for, Ophelia wants to make this Christmas special for her son, Joshua. But her deceased husband's cousin, the Earl of Litton, arrives before the holiday, determined to fulfill the terms of his cousin's will by taking custody of Joshua in Paper Snowflake Christmas by author Vanessa Riley.
I found this ChristFic historical romance novella in a multi-author volume of nine, The Victorian Christmas Brides Collection, a bit of a later period than the Regency stories I usually read by Riley. I've appreciated all of this author's work so far because she brings out historically accurate racial diversity that's missing from a lot of other Regency and Victorian period fiction I come across.
This story features a heroine originally from Jamaica, now facing an English law set to take her mulatto son away from her, by way of a lord. While a romance tale of this length with a "bride" theme could easily be rushed, the history this heroine shares with the hero makes the pacing more believable. In keeping with Riley's usual style, the irony weaved into the narration kept me on my toes, and I like it when I can't predict just what one character or another will say next.
Oh, and the snowflakes! Who would have thought that reading about those little paper creations could make my eyes tingle?
I thoroughly enjoyed this passionate and uplifting Christmas read.… (mere)

“The Victorian Christmas Brides Collection” included novellas about different women and their loves. Set in the Christmas season, they provide a variety of perspectives and personalities. I enjoyed each of them, although it is not the Christmas season just yet. The stories included a definite Christian message, although not preachy or overwhelming. The message was seamlessly woven into each story. I recommend this book for anyone who likes to read short romance novels/stories set during the Christmas season.

A great book by some great authors. A collection of novellas set in the Victorian times during the Christmas season each story is well written with well developed characters. That being said I do wish some of the stories were made into a full length book as I would have liked to have read more about each. Each authors did their research on not only the time period but also the locations. God's wondrous words and love, along with lessons about trusting God, are gently weaved into their story.

-A Christmas Promise
This novella was a little different from the others in the collection, it was a little hard to follow. And for the beginning, I was a little lost, but it was better in the end!

This is a one of a kind story - or for me it is! This is a wonderful and sweet novella that I enjoyed before bed, and on that note, it is a perfect before bed read!

This is a cute novella if a little lacking in depth. I enjoyed reading about Lily, I just wish that there were more descriptions.

This is one of the sweetest stories I have read! I had never heard of this author before this story and hadn't been sure I would like it but it was an enjoyable story!

Marianna is a sweet character, and I liked reading about her and Tristram. I like how they grew even though the story was short, they were well written and developed.
