Thank you to NetGalley for providing an Ebook ARC of this story, this is my honest review. Oh my gosh, did I really enjoy this book! I don't know if my review is going to do it justice but I'll try. Maggie and Ethan are both authors at the same publishing house. Both are spending Christmas in England, invited there by a legendary female crime author who's especially admired by Maggie. Maggie is still reeling from a divorce and betrayal by her husband and former best friend. Ethan is a bit of a mystery but Maggie has considered him to be an enemy. But what does Ethan think, and what will he do to try to change Maggie's mind? They encounter a mystery and danger once in England, which of course draws them closer together. There are some tropes in use here (grumpy-sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, just one bed, etc.) but they're done well and, in some cases, a bit tongue-in-cheek. I enjoyed the dialogue between the two main characters (gave me Jennifer Crusie vibes), and their personalities were written well and they had a good dynamic. There are dual 3rd person POVs, which I like in a romance. This was definitely a caper in all the best ways, with a satisfying resolution. This is honestly the kind of book you wish were longer because you're enjoying it so much. I stayed up way too late reading it and I have zero regrets. This is a new-to-me author but I'll definitely be reading more from her in the future!… (mere)

It’s over a decade since I last read anything by Carter and I am very glad her latest book caught my attention.

This take on The Bourne Identity was SO much fun! A woman wakes up in Paris with no memory of who she is and quickly discovers people are chasing after her; she goes on the run with an operative who claims he knows her sister.

This is fast-paced and funny and, delightfully, a little bit ridiculous. It’s genre-aware and has the sort of romantic tropes which arise when two people are on the run together. I enjoyed seeing them learn to work as a team, and I thought the twists and the resolutions were completely satisfying.

More, please!
“See?” Her breath was warm against his lips. “I’m an excellent spy.”
“That’s not… uh… actual tradecraft.”
“Don’t be mad.”
“I’m not mad,” he said a little too quickly. And, in truth, he didn’t sound mad, but he didn’t sound normal, either. “I just wasn’t expecting that… uh… maneuver.”
“I know! I’m so good at undercovering!”
“That’s not a verb.”
“And coverting! I covert so well!”

So, yeah, I am sooooo not the target audience for this one. All the same, I thought it was a cleverly written, enjoyable book with a low cheese-factor. Indeed, Carter's use of language kept it both light and interesting for me. Setting most of the story at a secret boarding school (and nearby town) has the potential to invoke shades of Harry Potter, but the author doesn't overwork things and succeeds in making the Gallagher Academy its own place. The characters are given a good depth without slowing things down, making each of them genuinely likable. Not quite enough true action for me, but I see why it's so popular with my middle school girls.… (mere)

{my thoughts} – This book is based on three teenagers named Macey, Hale and Kat. They are all rather smart when it comes to taking care of themselves in tight situations. In this short book they assist in helping to foil and armed robbery. Macey is extremely well taught and knows that it is important to stay on the right side of law. Hale and Kat are individuals that enjoy being on the wrong side of the law. However, Hale and Macey both have parents in high places.

This is a nice book if you enjoy mystery, intrigue, young romance and adventure type books. I enjoyed reading it through to the end. I am going to need to track down the two series that it is based on because they could be fun reads for me.… (mere)
