While there are a few strong pieces in this collection, such as Katrina L. Walters' essay, this particular anthology is jarring because of its focus on a mostly white audience. While the text is intended for social workers, and indeed social work in the U.S. may very well be white-dominated, one is struck by statements in this book such as this one from the forward by Laura Epstein: "The lesbian and gay American Indians described in this book are both American Indians and lesbians or gays." Ummm... She continues, "They look, sound, and lead lives that are similar to the rest of us." My oh my.… (mere)
