Rocks and Minerals!: With 25 Science Projects for… af Cynthia Light Brown
Part of the Explore Earth Science this book focuses on rocks and minerals and includes twenty-five science experiments to try. Geared for elementary aged readers Rocks and Minerals is written clearly with several explanations comparing to something familiar. For example, lava from explosive volcanoes is compared to toothpaste and lava from runny volcanoes is compared to salad dressing. Lots of photos, illustrations, sidebars, QR codes and more to further learning. My son and I made stalactites with Epson salts using directions from one of the projects it worked wonderfully. He was so delighted he shared with his teacher and she wants photos! Strong recommendation for any type of library and would work well for homeschooling families.… (mere)
½Interesting exploration book. Not necessarily a great "read" but great for kids to get the hang of exploring for rocks. My students loved the illustrations and experiments. Would definitely use again with more intense geology lessons.
The history of maps in an amazing breakdown. Teaches you about the Earth and Solar System and so much more. It also has activities which are fun and very educational. Even though the world is fully of GPS technology, it is great to look back on how people did it before those tools.
This book has a lot of fun science activates for kids to do with regular kitchen items. Hands on experiments are a great way for children to learn and this book has them use items they could find in their kitchen so they do not have to buy a bunch of expensive things to use. I rated it 4 out of 5 because these experiments are for kids 9 and up. It limits the grade I could use this book for.
