This book is bold in what it says, in some areas maybe stating things that go a bit far. But in as much as it tries to debunk a lot of 'cultural clutter' that poses as Christianity, it is helpful, particularly for those from a nonconformist evangelical tradition of the 19th and 20th century in Britain. He sees the value in certain things as far as they go, but keeps bringing people back to Scripture. Is every chapter excellent? No. I do not agree with the author's treatment of justification by faith alone, he makes valid points using James' epistle. However, there is no need to reject to doctrine of by faith alone, as a true faith is a living faith that manifests itself outwardly and involves a persuasion of the will. Nevertheless, this still gets 4 stars because of all the other content which is not found so clearly gathered in one simple volume as succinctly and understandingly as found here.… (mere)
