Didn't get good until the middle and then the end was so sad even though you knew the whole time it was going to be sad.

Words like grace, humanity, peace and worth all belong in a review for this book. A bit predictable; especially when Rebecca is introduced to Joe, but truly a heart warming story. Joe is diagnosed with end-stage pancreatic cancer, and journeys through what will be his end-of-life treatment. The first book in a long time that looks, really looks, at what it means to be human.

My Name is Joe. Stefan Bourque. 2010. I guess this book was offered free on Kindle as I doubt I would have ever found it otherwise. I glad I read it. Bourque’s prose is beautiful. The novel opens with Joe in a doctor’s office being told he has pancreatic cancer. The beginning is rather slow; and the subject matter is certainly not to everyone’s taste, but please don’t stop reading! Joe decides to forgo treatment and goes home to die. His musing on his life could apply to a lot of us and his resolve to make the last part of is life meaningful is a joy to read.… (mere)

I received this in a librarything giveaway, and I enjoyed it. It is a story about a man with no family who discovers he has cancer. It chronicles his last few months of life. It starts out very sad and slow, but gets better.
