Frank Bidart was born in Bakersfield, California on May 27, 1939. He attended the University of California-Riverside and Harvard University. His first collection of poetry, Golden State, was published in 1973. His other collections of poetry included The Book of the Body, The Sacrifice, Star Dust, vis mere and Watching the Spring Festival. He received several awards including the Rebekka Bobbitt Prize for Desire, the National Books Critics Circle Award for Metaphysical Dog, and the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for Half-Light: Collected Poems 1965-2016.
