- Elizabeth Asquith was born to H.H. Asquith, later British Prime Minister, and his second wife Margot Tennant. As the PM's daughter, she was thrust into the public eye at a young age, and is said to have developed a quick wit and a social presence beyond her years.
In 1919, she married the Romanian diplomat Prince Antoine Bibesco. The couple lived in Paris and other capitals to which the prince was posted as ambassador. They were both close friends of Marcel Proust. Beginning in 1921, she published three collections of short stories, four novels, two plays, and a book of poetry. She died of pneumonia in 1945 at the age of 48. A final posthumous edition of her work appeared in 1951. - Oplysning om flertydighed
