Read some years ago - just located a note about it. As with other books on self publishing which I've read it emphasises how much work an author has to put into the whole marketing and selling process.

The book is very well-written, full of anecdotes about bright and challenging children, with advice about what to do, and what not to do. There are questionnaires, places for parents to pause and think about certain aspects of parenting, and some excellent suggestions in the later chapters for preparing their children for the temptations of the teenage years.

It's intended for parent of children from eight to twelve, and most of the suggestions and recommendations are appropriate for this age-range. However, some children are clearly bright and challenging from a much younger age, and some teenagers are the despair of their parents due to consistently negative behaviour of the sort described in this book. So I feel it would be appropriate for parents of any age children who are finding it hard to deal with them.… (mere)

Excellent guide to careers in books and magazines; also touches on e-publishing. Looks at the roles, the sector, and how to get out there.

Covers commercial galleries as well as all types of museum from the nationals to small local ones, and looks at the characteristics of each. It's not only concerned with curatorial jobs, but also looks at roles in education, retail, brand licensing, conservation and fundraising, and considers the personal attributes needed - shrinking violets need not apply. One chapter examines the case for doing a Masters in Museum Studies and decides in favour ( - written by a lecturer in museum and gallery studies). Another considers the pros and cons of doing a PhD before aiming for a curatorial career. Other issues discussed are how to seek work experience, the importance of networking, and how to make your application stand out. It's punctuated with meaty case studies and is interesting, readable and informative. A proper book.
