I never would have read this if it hadn’t been for a free day. Just because it’s free doesn’t bother me. Some of the best books I have ever read were free. Whether on my ereader, through brick and mortar stores, or through the library, I have traveled the world, lived through my wildest fantasies and even learned a few things along the way.

I have just gotten back into golf after an injury, so I was excited to swing the clubs. I even hit a few really good shots, and that made me feel good. The weather was warm, with a balmy breeze and the birds singing. What could be better?

Well, I did feel pretty stiff. Many of the swings felt awkward, out of sync. I knew I was tight. Always have been. I feel, with many of the things I learned in Play Better Golf With Easy Yoga by Patricia Bacall, I can improve my swing be availing myself of the suggested yoga poses and the reasons for them. The illustrations and instructions are good. I feel, with a little practice, I will be able to incorporate them into my exercise regimen. Some of them I am already doing, having picked them up through the internet for some reason or another.

The book is easy to read and understand. I learned more about target specific poses that incorporate your entire body, that being a necessity in golf. The poses are easy to convert to an easier style for those of us that are way too tight. lol

Body and mind working together to make your golf day even more enjoyable.

The trouble with most diets is they don’t address the person’s mental state. They do not consider fundamental reasons why you keep putting on weight, and why you go through phases of heavy-light. And they don’t ever consider that, by now, you have the most superbly trained body you can get – it is trained to store every ounce of fat it can to ward against the next period of starvation.

This book does.

In Easy Weight Loss Yoga, Patricia Bacall discusses, in a straightforward way, the reasons why we diet to fail. The physical, mental and emotional reasons. She explains about endocrine systems and hormones and glands, and how we need to keep all these systems working. She talks about the physiological reason why losing weight is more difficult with age. She suggests that some of the reasons we eat unhealthily is because we are missing key nutritional needs in our diets, and our bodies search around to fill the gap. This chimes with other theories – like not understanding the thirsty signal from our bodies, and eating instead.

Ms Bacall presents yoga as an opportunity to address our mental and physical states, focusing on 12 key poses in a yoga programme that would stimulate our endocrine system and vital organs. She recommends finding a suitable yoga class or teacher to help you get going. This is not a ‘how to do yoga’ book. It’s a companion volume to a yoga programme, or an exercise programme, for a person who wants to understand what the specific poses can do to help their metabolism. I like her style.

I don’t know yet whether it does what it says in the title. But I have access to a weekly yoga class, and I know in the past I have been able to do many of these poses. I just need to get my mental state into gear to do it.

This is a book that is never really 'read' as it needs to be beside you until the poses are automatic, and even after to remind you of the mental approach.

The whole idea of this book is that diets are not going to work, especially if you can’t get past hating yourself for your appearance. It sounds like a simple idea, but there is a lot more to it than that. This book covers a lot of areas in how we hate ourselves and punish ourselves. It also discusses how we can get over these messages and start making healthy progress to weight loss.

I have been overweight for several years and seem to find the same results. I may try a diet just to crash and burn horribly within a couple days, try to start exercising but take a huge leap and almost kill myself off and never do anything again, and of course the verbal punishment from eating desserts to refusing to buy bigger clothes because I just keep gaining weight. When I started reading this book, it started hitting home right away. The exact behaviors that were being described were what I was doing to myself.

I started to realize where I was messing my weight loss up. It has made me more aware of what happens and how I react. Although I do find myself slipping back into the negative behaviors, thanks to reading Loving Yourself Thin, I can identify those behaviors and modify them before they get out of control.

I really liked this book and I recommend it to anyone that has be struggling with weight loss issues. There is so much more involved when you are trying to loose weight and this book treats the mental aspect that is not talked about that much.

This is one book that I think should be a must for anyone serious about weight loss.

I received a copy of this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. After I started reading the book, I found that I needed a physical copy to help me work through the different exercises. I purchased a physical copy and found it was much easier to follow the point of the book.
