History of Eastern Christianity af Aziz S. Atiya
Fantastic read. It was great to finally see a thorough history of the Oriental Orthodox and Nestorian Churches, especially from a member of one of those Churches (the Coptic, to be specific). It was especially interesting to see the Council of Chalcedon and surrounding events from the perspective of a member of the Oriental Orthodox Church. For anyone seeking a deeper understanding of ancient Christianity outside of the borders of the Roman Empire, this is the book you want to read.

Atiya (read 13 Dec 1979) This was written by a Copt, and told of the Coptic, Jacobite, Nestorian, Armenian, St Thomas Christians of South India, and Maronite Church. Only the Maronites--mainly in Lebanon--are in unity with Rome. This book told me a lot I didn't know, but some of it didn't interest me too much.
