An interesting book, but not what I expected. The author speaks of his personal experiences as a physician, not only with death but also with life. Although I'm not usually a fan of these kinds of books, this was well-written and I enjoyed reading it.

I read the book in exchange for honest review from Tyndale House. The book is different than what I normally read. The first chapter dealt with a 82 year-old man, in intensive care. He has a weak immune system. He wanted to make his appointment with Heaven, while his family hoped for recovery. The book focuses on Dr. Anderson's patients, who have made appointments with Heaven. With each death, Anderson caught a glimpse of heaven.

Chapter 2 focuses on Anderson's family background. Anderson provided a story about how he had a dream, he won a pony in a contest. He tried to tell his mother not to mail in his sibling's entry forms because he was going to win. Anderson had faith that God revealed the dream to him and the pony was his to share with everyone. Anderson did win the pony and he shared his pony with the town.

Chapter 3 was another favorite story of mine. Anderson discussed how one Christmas, he did not get anything from Santa. His brother and sisters got presents, but Anderson got a letter from Santa. Anderson was hurt because he did not understand why Santa brought his brother and sister a gift, but forgot him.

Fast forward to Chapter 10, which discusses another dream, Anderson had, which changed his life. He dreamed of a beautiful countryside, with wildflowers. The water was clear blue. The dream removed a huge weight from his life and Anderson drew closer to God.

The book has 32 chapters. Each chapter is 10 pages or less. The stories are inspirational. I loved reading the book.

God Reveals Himself in a Special Way in Appointments With Heaven by Dr. Reggie Anderson

Appointments with Heaven: The True Story of a Country Doctor's Healing Encounters with the Hereafter

by Dr. Reggie Anderson

Dr. Reggie Anderson writes about his experiences sitting with patients that are dying and in sitting with them he experiences something special. God allows him to see their passing from this life to heaven in a special way. He is allowed to help them in their last minutes and God uses him in a unique and special way. He has so many different experiences sitting and helping the dying patient in this book, and each one brings another glimpse of God and His love.

This book is an exceptional look at how God reveals Himself in special ways. It looks at and follows Dr. Anderson has he struggles with his faith after a tragedy that shakes his belief that there is a God let alone his faith in God. It is his struggle, but we all at times when an illness or tragedy strikes, have asked the same thing if there is a God why would he let this happen. This book shows God understands our hurt and questioning but He never leaves or gives up on us. He will meet us where we are and help us when we let Him.

One of my favorite lines was when Karen tells Reggie to pray "God, if you're real, make yourself known to me." pg 76 from Appointments with Heaven by Dr. Reggie Anderson
When Dr. Anderson's friend tells him to ask God to reveal Himself to him, God does in an extraordinary way through a dream.

I would recommend this book to people who are struggling with a loss of a loved one. It is a book that will uplift and help all that read it.

This book I would give 5 stars and recommend to all.

I was given a copy of this book by Tyndale Publishing in exchange for my honest review of the book.
