The first installment of James Paterson's Women's Murder Club hits the mark and keeps the reader longing for more. Newlyweds are being murdered and it is up to Lindsey Boxer and her friends to find out who is committing these heinous acts. This book along with the others in the series, is a quick page turnining thriller. This is the first book by this author I have read and it won't be the last. Back Cover Blurb: As the only woman homicide inspector in San Francisco, Lindsay Boxer has to be tough. But nothing has prepared her for the honeymoon murders. A brutal maniac begins a killing spree - slaughtering newlywed couples - and Lindsay takes on the case. She is sickened by the deaths, but her determination to bring the murderer to justice is threatened by a personal tragedy. So she turns to Claire, a coronor, Cindy, a journalist, and Jill, an attorney, for help with both crises: and the Women's Murder Club is born. I usually read mysteries with woman protagonists written by women so I hadn't read any James Patterson but ever since I watched the short lived TV show Women's Murder Club I wanted to read the first in this series. This is a fast paced story with many twists and turns that hold your interest. In the midst of the investigation of some newlywed's murders the Women's Murder Club is born with Lindsay Boxer, a homicide detective and her friend, Claire, the Medical Examiner, Cindy, the energetic newspaper reporter, who she befriends in the midst of this investigation and Jill, the assistant district attorney. Their friendships develop and they meet several times throughout the book to discuss details of the crime and strategies to solve it. Due to seeing the show I was picturing Angie Harmon as Lindsay though they did change her hair color and Jill's also but I do think the show captures the essence of the characters. Patterson's prose is uneven but this book is definitely a page turner with short chapters and there is some character development in Lindsay and I found her to be very likable. I want to read the next in the series but as Patterson has coauthors for the remaining of the series I will have to see if they have the same consistency as this one. no reviews | add a review
Amazon.com (ISBN 0316666009, Hardcover)The Women's Murder Club pits four San Francisco women professionals against a serial killer who's stalking and murdering newlyweds in bestselling author James Patterson's newest thriller. Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector who's just gotten some very bad news. She deals with it by immersing herself in her newest case and soliciting the personal as well as professional support of her closest friend, who happens to be the city's medical examiner. The two women, along with an ambitious and sympathetic reporter and an assistant DA, form an unlikely alliance, pooling their information and bypassing the chain of command in an engaging, suspenseful story whose gruesome setup is vintage Patterson."What is the worst thing anyone has ever done?" the killer muses to himself early in the narrative. "Am I capable of doing it? Do I have what it takes?" Answering his own question, he embarks on a murderous spree that takes him from the bridal suite in a Nob Hill hotel to a honeymoon destination in the Napa Valley and thence to a wedding reception at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Dispatching his victims on the happiest day of their lives, he purposefully leaves enough clues for his distaff trackers to discover his identity and put him behind bars. But just when the women think they've got the case all wrapped up, the killer turns the tables on them in a bloody denouement that even the most discerning reader won't see coming. Patterson, author of the popular Alex Cross mysteries, promises future adventures for the Women's Murder Club, which may give him an opportunity to develop his heroines' characters more completely and win new fans among those who prefer their detectives in high heels and lipstick. --Jane Adams (hentet fra Amazon Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:58:24 -0400) Den første test runde er færdig.
