This is a book everyone should be required to read in high school, along with the World's Religions. Her book History of God is also a fascinating study of the world's religions. Still reading The History of God (non-fiction always takes me a little longer) but also enjoying Patrick Hamilton's Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky. For some reason I thought this might be hard going but I'm completely caught up in it and it's racing along. Just started A History of God by Karen Armstrong. I am somewhat ambivalent about Karen Armstrong, but I liked her A History of God. I think it is good at showing how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all draw on each other in their development. I too do not understand why people are so gullible. After reading A History of God I am convinced, more than ever, that this willingness to believe absurdities is the result of some genetic anomaly that served some useful purpose 100,000 - 1,000,000 years ago, but serves us badly now. 30. Very interesting. Some of the information went over my head when she started talking about the god of philosophers, but it was interesting to see how the ideas of god have changed very much throughout history in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Plu ... Although I confess I've not read anything else she wrote, Karen Armstrong's A History of God, combined with an amazing Classics professor in college, was what got me interested in comparative religion. My impression of her book might change if I were to re-read it now (so much else to do....) ... Have any of you read The Red Tent by Anita Diamant? Now that I'm reading A History of God I realize Diamant was dead on with her depiction of how pagan the Hebrew women were at that point in time. ... the first three volumes of Fables on hold at the library.

OK, one more time - half way through History of God by Karen Armstrong,just started The Murder Room and still slogging through Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, though finding it slow going.
