However, his vision reached beyond the moment he was in: he seemed to always have an eye to the future, and what it might hold. "Station to Station" tells of the growing role machines would have in our lives. He has also been actor, and many people forget how good his roles were. In "The Hunger," he played an aging vampire; in "The Man Who Fell to Earth," he played an alien pretending to be human (art imitating life?) He has always been so far ahead of his peers musically, that I believe his music will sound fresh 100 yrs from now. However, Peter & Leni Gillman have made a studious effort to strip "David Bowie" down to "David Jones," the young man whose "A-levels" only allowed him to technical school. But as everything in his life, he turned every situation into an opportunity for his own benefit. People expressed shock that he could compose, play and sing, forgetting that some people just have "it." The book is a little too dry, though very well-researched; it doesn't match the man.
