( )Synopsis: Fictional tale starring Beatrix Potter, the town folk of Near Sawrey, and the countryside's talking animals. This mystery involves the death of Mr. Wickstead by an accidental and curious manner. He is found beside a fallen tree limb. The villagers believe that his death has to do with a Viking treasure that Mr. Wikstead had supposedly found. Beatrix Potter is in the country on a break from her demanding parents. The stress of city life has followed her to the country as she tries to assist the villagers in different affairs. The village animals, especially Pickles the dog, and Bailey the badger know more than the people about the murder, and discuss it excitedly among themselves. Pros & Cons: This book was slow in some spots for me, but it is a cozy book to read on a grey weekend. It is not the first in the series, but the first one I've started with - so I wonder if it would help to go in order. Albert does a nice job of filling in missing pieces so it is not that crucial to go in order though. http://www.cozylibrary.com/default.as... I'm not a reader who's much into talking animals, but I make a grand exception to these "cottage talkes of Bearix Potter" by SWA. The third-person narrator is THE BEST in cozy fiction. Bar none! Readers who loved the movie Miss Potter owes it to themselves to give these books a read -- they're great for both adult and young readers -- perfect for mother-daughter book groups. no reviews | add a review
