Serena McAllister is devastated to find her fianc has cheated on her-again. When she learns her newspaper is outsourcing jobs to freelance writers, she's desperate to land the last remaining staff position. Unfortunately, her rival Jane Childers wants the coveted spot as well, and she's just as determined. Vowing to do whatever it takes to get her life in order, Serena decides to join a modern-day harem and write a provocative article about the objectification of women across the world to land her dream job at the newspaper. When Serena arrives at the tiny tropical paradise known as Birin Island, she meets Prince Shailemon Sharma, who is dealing with his own issues of archaic customs in his homeland. As sparks begin to fly, they discover that attraction can lead to so much more-and that there are no barriers of culture or country when love is on the line.… (mere)

The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! Although this book wasn't my favorite read, it was enjoyable. The characters were neither my favorite nor my worst.
All in all, it was a good read. ( )

The cover of the book is beautiful, though misleading since the book takes place on an island in the Pacific. The blurb about the book was what hooked me into reading. It was very in line with a made-for-TV movie on Hallmark or LMN. It was insta-love, which isn't my favorite, but it made for an interesting story. I wish there was a little more back story about Serena and why she decided to travel and join the coterie. I'd be interested to see more about Shai and Serena.

Overall, this book was a quick and cute read. 3.5 out of 5 stars. Thank you to LibraryThing and BHC Press for an early reviewer copy for an honest review. ( )

Serena goes undercover in a modern harem to get a scoop to secure a staff position at work. She's recovering from a broken heart and recent breakup, combined with jet lag and one too many drinks, her first hours on the island are a bit madcap. She's thrown into a formal dinner and manages to muddle through.
Prince Shai has to marry quickly to save his island nation and ascend to the throne, but a surprise from a neighboring kingdom gives him a shock about his situation, his late father, and his priorities.
Life with Serena is never dull, and their time together is full of sparks. Shai had hoped to marry for love, but things aren't going his way. He's warring with feelings he's never felt and searching for anything to save his homeland.
Misunderstandings abound between the modern interpretation of a harem, secrets, familial obligations and those to the kingdom. Is there a chance for a modern girl to find love in a jasmine-scented paradise which seems too good to be true? Shai's deadline is looming and everything is on the line, he wants it all, but can he find the hidden clues in time?
A fun, smexy read!

I have been loving quick, cute romances lately. But this book was tough to get into and made me cringe quite a bit. I didn’t like the main character - she was shallow and frustrating in her choices. She was unlikeable and I found the love interest to be unlikeable as well.

I received this book from the Early Reviewers List on Library Thing. ( )

American journalist Serena travels to a little known island to write an expose on harems but finds herself falling in love with the charming prince she meets there. I was looking forward to reading this one but it just fell short for me. The characters were a little shallow and I didn't really connect with either of them. The writing was uneven and some of the dialogue felt forced and unnatural. All in all this was just a so-so read for me. This honest review is in exchange for a free copy of the book from the publisher through the early reviewers program. ( )
