Moon Called is the first book in Patricia Briggs' "Mercy Thompson" series, urban fantasy about a Native American (Mercedes Thompson) who can shapeshift to coyote and was raised by werewolves. Weres also appear in Kim Harrison's "Rachel Morgan" (also called "The Hollows") series, which begins ...

67. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs I'm not sure if the fact I had low expectations for this book is in play here or not, but I really loved this book. One of the better werewolf stories I have read in quite some time.

... is set in the city of Seattle Likewise Rosemary and Rue, by Seanan McGuire is set in the city of San Francisco and Moon Called, by Patricia Briggs, is set in the Tri City, Washington, area. All of which I would consider Urban Fantasy (and all of which I've enjoyed).

Im currently reading Moon Called by Patricia Briggs still in the beg. but seems pretty good. I think Im going to go treat myself to Borders today for my Birthday & buy Covet by J.R. Ward!!

Staying away from the strict "romance" genre (wherein there are many, many werewolf themed stories) I'd suggest the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs which is more urban fantasy than romance. Also, the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher has werewolves in it but they are not ...

The Mercy Thompson Books by, Patricia Briggs have what I like to call an old style romance to them you get a nice romantic build up then they go in the bedroom and close the door and leave you to figure out the rest..I really liked these for that reason!Don't read Daughter of the Blood I didn't ...

#50 Moon Called by Patricia Briggs Meh. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Good enough to pass quiet periods on a night shift at work, the kind of book that's easy to get back into after constant interruptions. I may read more of the series, but not on my priority list.

... of thing but this is a good intro it's not quite as, well it's not quite as whatever. For more urban fantasy, things like Moon Called and Storm Front (The Dresden Files) both are the beginnings of series the have faeries hanging about. Any of those sound interesting?

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs ****1/2 I've heard about this series for ages but never tried it because I like vampires better than werewolves and I like romance better than fantasy. At least I thought I did. Ever since I devoured Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series, I've had a thing for ...

39. Blood Bound Sequel to Moon Called, and equally entertaining.

FlossieT - I think that you'll like A Mercy - I really did. I felt like I should read it really slowly just to savor the beautiful phrases. But it was only the 2nd of Morrison's books that I've read. (I've also read Beloved.) I'd like to read another. Which one of hers is your favorite?

Both A Mercy and The Hour I First Believed came out just today. I had pretty much decided on the Toni Morrison. Yes, she loves that chew thing and is sleeping with it right now. (I have no idea why the touchstone brings up "Moon Called" instead of "A Mercy". How odd.)

... to leave them alone, hoping that it increases the odds for LTers in those countries. However, I might have had to try for A Mercy by Toni Morrison and The Island at the End of the World by Sam Taylor if they had been available in the US. They look very interesting.

36. Moon Called Lucky for me, my sister reads gobs of light fantasy, sifting through all the crap and giving me the few GOOD fluff fantasy books out there. This is a werewolf etc. book that was very entertaining and kept me up late on a "school night", which is something I rarely do. Pretty ...

I've been on a fantasy string lately. The Magicians and Mrs. Quent because it sounded interesting, and Moon Called because a lot of people seemed to like it. I reread an old favorite, Komarr, in between to break up my thought patterns. I liked the first--still need to write up a review, but ...

#85> I'll second Moon Called and its sequel Blood Bound. The third book in this series Iron Kissed just came out, but I haven't read it yet. While these aren't young-adult books, they're much less explicit than other books in the urban fantasy genre. Skellig may be fun (though its level ...

>54 If you like paranormal urban fantasy you could try Patricia Briggs' books Moon Called and Blood Bound. They're not really romances, although there is a little bit of romance in them.

I agree, the cover for Secrets is pretty bad, but the story is really, really good. There is Moon Called but it is not catagorized as YA. It is an urban fantasy. I don't think it really had anything too objectionable in it. It would probably be okay for older teens. I recently read a story ...

All of Patricia Briggs' books have a romance subplot, although it is probably weakest in her Dragons duology. She's just great for hinting at the romance without revealing too much.

... it's written, but the publishers aren't interested in it right now. Bummer. Blood Bound is definitely better than Moon Called.

Most recently I purchased Fool Moon by Jim Butcher, The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl, Moon Called By Patricia Briggs, The Radon File by Denise Vitola and Myths for the Modern Age by Win Scott Eckert.

My favorites right this very moment are Moon Called and the Aisling Grey novels by Kelley Armstrong. I hear that Blood Bound is already being sold at Borders and plan to go pick up a copy over the weekend :-) Amazon still has it as a pre-order.

... Split Infinity, Blue Adept and Juxtaposition. Currently my tastes run more towards urban fantasy. I recently read Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and loved it. Also, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is my favorite story. Both of these are the beginnings of series.

I think the sequel to Moon Called is coming out at the end of this month. I'm looking forward to it :-) I'll probably order it from Amazon and add it to my tbr pile. I'm also planning to read more of Patricia Briggs' works in the future.

And Moon Called is so short! I should be able to read it pretty fast if I ever got off line.

#33 I liked Moon Called enough to look for a few more Patricia Briggs books, which have been enjoyable so far!

I started Moon Called today and I like it so far. I finally finished Voyager and found it a bit harder to get through out of the Outlander saga so far. I guess I need a break so therefore Moon Called. Storee I love Jeffries' Prince books too. I may have to re-read them sometime. DL, what ...

Jenson_AKA_DL in Urban Fantasy : Welcome! (jan 4, 2007, 11:25am)

... Is it fantasy set in the contemporary world? I have recently read a couple books which were cataloged as urban fantasy, Moon Called and The Blue Girl. Has anyone else read these books? What did you think?

CC-Thanks! Since I really enjoyed Moon Called I will probably check out some of her other books as well. I think she wrote some dragon ones?

I finished Moon Called by Patricia Briggs yesterday and started The Blue Girl (touchstone being stubborn) by Charles de Lint last night. I'm really enjoying it so far.

RL - I really enjoyed Moon Called and finished it today as I was home from work being sick and whiney (except there was no one to whine to so I basically slept and read). I did a little review of the book if you're interested. It wasn't really a romance and is actually catagorized as a fantasy, ...

... an American beauty. I think I'm going to read Lady of Sin next since I'm still waiting for Outlander to arrive. DL Moon Called looks pretty good. You have to tell me what you think when you're done.

Just started Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. I'm a couple chapters in and am relieved that it seems like I will like this better than the last couple books I've read, Beauty and Uglies. It wasn't that I hated those two books, far from it, I just found them a bit tedious to read.

Sorry, I haven't heard of her before. Today I'm starting Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. I'm really looking forward to it! The last couple books I've read were a bit of a chore so it will be nice to read something I can really get in to. edited to get the touchstones working!
