110. Imperium , Robert Harris
111. Lustrum, Robert Harris
Tightly plotted political thrillers set in the turbulence and tumult of the Roman republic, told from the perspective of Tiro, Cicero's personal secretary. I loved these books - I've always had a little bit of a soft spot for Cicer ...

Cushla, have read Imperium , The Emperor and The Soccer War and have Shah of Shahs on my list. Started with The Emperor, about Haile Selassie, which was excellent and am reading my way though all of Kapuscinski's books. Hasn't written a bad one.

#20: I have put Imperium on Planet TBR. I will look forward to your review of Pompeii to see if it might be a worthy addition to the Planet as well.
I completely understand about yielding to temptation. Happens to me all the time :)
Just left Rome in the 1st century BC in the company of Robert Harris' Imperium and have moved to the Caucasus mountains in 950 BC with Gentlemen of the Road.
26. Imperium by Robert Harris. Fantastic. I love historical fiction, especially when it is set in the ancient world and keeps faith with the facts. Harris' other book set in the Roman world, Pompeii, is on my tbr list; I might just have to bring it forward. Talking of tbr lists mine is now a ...

This weekend I was reading Imperium which is about Cicero. Robert Harris's inspiration was apparently the lost biography of Cicero written by his devoted slave/law clerk. It would almost be ...
I was thinking of posting about Imperium as I was scrolling down and see that cmt has beat me to it. It's fiction, but I enjoyed it. I haven't read any nonfiction about Cicero, but I did look up a few things on the internet as I was reading Imperium , and didn't find any glaring errors.
... (sorry, am blanking on the title), so reading some of the material the second time just wasn't as interesting.
I have Imperium by Robert Harris and From the Gracchi to Nero by Scullard in my pile as well and might dig them out, once I get over my US politics kick.
Hey, cecilturtle, I haven't read Pompei, but I enjoyed Imperium (about Cicero) and my book club is reading The Ghost -- all by Robert Harris.

62. Imperium by Robert Harris - While it started off OK, it finished sort of 'meh'. Not bad, just not all that good. Very detailed, and seemed to be historically accurate (ancient Rome is not a well-known era for me), but for much of the book there really didn't seem to be anything happening. ...

I'm either going to go back to Mistborn or will start Imperium . Depends on which seems to take less brain power.
Does anyone here particularly like biographical novels? There are two (in my collection) which I loved: imperium by Robert Harris & The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone. They are about Michelangelo and Cicero, respectively.
Medicus: A Novel of the Roman Empire by Ruth Downie was not entirely awful, but I enjoyed Imperium by Robert Harris much more.

Imperium
If you try getting unsuggestions for, say, Imperium by Robert Harris, you can't. I suspect that the reason is that the number of copies is counted by work; there are two different books counted under the same work. At a guess, both books are under 75 copies, but grouped together, they ...

Thoroughly enjoyed Imperium by Robert Harris, almost had me want to go and read Cicero. I've all but finished Ben Elton's Heart Throb too - a sarcastic view of the 'Pop Idol' ...... in there there's probably a stunning novella waiting to be let out. It was a great relief and contrast to move on to Imperium by Robert Harris a wonderfully told story of the life of Cicero, I can't wait to go and finish off the last few pages.
