Here are some ways that people have used the comment field in their catalogs:

citation information for academic journal articles, titles and authors contained in anthologies, information about for magazines
first impressions of the book
gift information
month/year your book club read the books
notes about the condition of the book, especially if unusual
number of times you've read it
personal relationship to the book (contributed information, mentioned in the dedication, personal friend of the author, etc.)
quotes from your favourite parts of the book
record dedications, inscriptions, autographs
source of the LC & Dewey information
unusual format information (ARC, photocopy, special binding, etc.)
what store the book came from
where you purchased it
whether you bought it new or used
where you keep the book
