I've seen complaints in other threads about the removal of wishlist and CR from the work pages, but I thought it deserved its own thread.
I am definitely in favour of "Bring back wishlist and CR".
But as it was a feature that has disappeared it already has its own thread in Bug Collectors
http://www.librarything.com/topic/75431I'll put in a link to this one there.
2nded. Especially CR.
Where was wishlist ? the Pink 'add to wishlist' is still there. But there's no indication on a workpage that my edition is a wishlist one - did there used to be?
At least part of the change was deliberate rather than being a bug. Does anyone happen to have a link to the thread where Tim said he wanted to remove the links from the main page?
It used to show a list of the other members who had it in their wishlist or CR, but I don't know whether there was any indication that your own copy was a wishlist one.
I'd like them both back, too, please.
#3 reading_fox - The wishlisted info used to be along the left side, near "members"
If you see the Pink 'add to wishlist', then the book is not on your wishlist. Works on your wishlist will have 'Book Information' in place of the 'add' links. (See this link:
http://www.librarything.com/work/17268/5... )
Also would like them back.
Yes please.
Anyone know where the thread where Tim first threatened to kill these is?
What's annoying is not just that they're gone from the left-hand side but that there doesn't seem to be a link to them anywhere, even on the members subpage. If the links need to be moved, fine, but I would have thought this is the kind of fun information that people might want to see linked prominently on the main work page (at the very least, the number of people who've wishlisted it and are currently reading).
Yeah, I don't think it was intentional to leave them out entirely. I'm surprised someone made the change and then disappeared without paying any attention to the results; it's the kind of omission that should have been reported and fixed within an hour.
Can we have them back please ... pretty please ...
I can't believe these have been removed. They were very interesting snippets.
I just notice the CR function was missing, and now that you mention it, the wishlist too.
I can't see why, they weren't hurting anyone, other than you could sometimes see that some people had too many books in a free account. Perhaps members were bothering others about it ? I just reported it to the admins, though nothing was done as far as I could tell.
Tim had some idea that the main work page was too crowded.
Yeah, I read that thread after I posted. So has it been moved somewhere, or is it just gone ?
Common Knowledge is where it always was: down at the bottom of the main page of a book, and on a page of its own when you hit the "Common Knowledge" link on the left hand side.
Edited to correct stupid spelling.

>17 It's just gone, though I think it was supposed to remain on the Members subpage.
>18 Sorry, too many abbreviations. Currently Reading is gone.
Sorry. My eyes must be tired.
I thought they were to be moved to the Members sub-page, which made sense to me. But they seemed to have dropped into a black hole somewhere on the way. Please may we have them back?
It also seems that the CR and Wishlisted lists on the Home page are stuck again (actually, maybe for a long while?), and those lists on the work pages were how I'd check that.
*me tooing*
They're going to come back—on the members page, probably with notice in the top-bar, with reviews and so forth.
I had, frankly, thought they were already there. I asked Chris to move them there, removing them as top-level categories on every work. There must have been some mix up.
That said, the way they were implemented was a hack, and not to my liking. It was slowing the pages down, which is something I am increasingly intolerant of. I wanted to reengineer them.
Anyway, once we push out the current project, I'll turn my attention to them. They aren't gone forever, I promise.
Thanks, Tim, as I have been using that information.
Totally understandable - would prefer to have them come back efficiently rather than slow down the site. Explains some of the recent "site is really slow" posts as well (mebbe).
Thanks for the update. Glad to know I can stalk the data again in the future as well. :)
probably with notice in the top-bar, with reviews and so forth
Thanks, this would be great (if I understand it correctly--this is the top bar on the main page?).
Thanks for the update, Tim. I agree that the members page is the logical spot for this info.
I've been thinking about this more, and I'm wondering whether there's any plan to systematically reconsider what the Work page is and what should go there.
For example, why is information about other members considered relatively unimportant (i.e., to be relegated to a separate subpage), while Book information (which I can see in my own customizable catalogue) deserves immovable prominence on the Work page? Why is long-form CK not restricted to the CK subpage? Why is the abandoned Open Shelves section still there at all? Is there any unifying concept behind it all?
Just pitching in on Zoe's #28, I wouldn't want all the member information on the work page. I think that's OK on the subpage. I was wondering myself about the CK stuff and the Open Shelves the other day. Especially for the short CK, it does seem a bit pointless to have both there (although, if I remember correctly, the argument for having both was that the long form was more likely to stimulate data entry than the short form). Honestly, I always tend to click on the CK link in the sidebar anyway to add data because I'm too lazy to scroll down (yes, I know, it defines a new level of laziness that I just can't bring myself to whirl the scroll button but there you go ...).
Trying to picture this: I click on a title, work page opens... and then I have to click on members (where, the hyperlinked number?) to open "members' page" to see the Wishlist, CR info?
Hmmm. I don't know, to me this belongs to the general work page info... something you'd like to know at a glance--is it being read, is it being wishlisted?
I would also like to see this on the work page. I found it useful where it was.
I liked it the way it was before too. I think you still had to click a link to see who was reading and wishing, but at least you knew it was there.
I almost never click on the members link, so burying something with no idea its there would seem to remove it from mind. If there is a link to show its there, then why not make it accessible through the link, rather than another page?
I would like to say I prefer the long CK to be moved, since the ability to customize doesn't stick, and long and short on the same page is redundant.
I don't care about where the currently reading item is, but I most definitely want the wishlist back on the work page. The reason for that is that I decide to whom to send my read books by the names that come up on the work page under wishlist. Even if it goes on member page, please *also* include it on the work page. Thanks!
Echoing #33 - The wishlist is a nice way to share books.
However, note the pages still exist. Use the work page address (without the extra links to your copies) and add "wishlisted" or "currentlyReading". Note, it's case sensitive.
Examples, using gwernin's book. I can't get it to post properly, so you'll need to copy, paste and remove the spaces.
Work page: w w w.librarything.com/work/3039463
wishlist page: w w w.librarything.com/work/3039463/wishlisted
currently reading page: w w w.librarything.com/work/3039463/currentlyReading

I knew that workaround, but thanks for sharing it with others.
So now that the big page update is done, is this coming back?
:)
I was just sailing by to post the same thing stephmo, so I shall just say 'Ditto'
Please?
Is it a Christmas miracle we're holding out hope for now? Or a New Year's Resolution of sorts?
Just checking in again...
Missing my stalker feature...a lot!
It would be nice even to hear "two more weeks"... :)
Given how busy they seem to be, I don't know where they find the time to delete features....
>41.
I assume you're being funny, but in case you're not:
They probably didn't delete the feature, they probably instead started from the wrong baseline. Which wouldn't have happened if they had a talented software configuration management analyst on their payroll. (hint hint)
>42 Tim more than politely explained it in post #24:
They're going to come back—on the members page, probably with notice in the top-bar, with reviews and so forth.

Don't worry - I read the whole thing and understood this the whole time. I've just been waiting for update and knew that the reengineering wouldn't be instantaneous. I'd just like to know where we are now, that's all. Some folks don't like to actually read the whole thread, I know it's taxing when it's up to post 40 and all. ;)
>42 Tim did say beforehand that he was planning to remove the links from the main workpage. They were just supposed to remain on the subpage.
>43 I did read Tim's comments, but that doesn't mean that I agree with his approach. If you're not entirely satisfied with a feature and want to re-engineer it, wait until you have time and re-engineer it then. Don't just get rid of it entirely in the meantime.
Likewise, if you're going to reorganize the work pages a bit, at least make sure the person doing it has ten minutes to look at Bug Collectors the next day and see whether anything has gone wrong. In this case, something did--rather than moving the feature, it was entirely eliminated.
If you don't have time to deal with the consequences of a change, it's better to hold off on making the change. Or if you notice that something has gone wrong and you don't have time to deal with it, revert to the previous state until you do have the time to make the change properly.
I'd like to see the wishlist and currently read count on the main work page. The names aren't as important, as I'm willing to click on the members link to see them now that the work page has told me that there's something to look at.
I'm not going to wait for the members page to load for Schroedinger's wishlist.

Schrödinger is a pain to shop for! Half the time I check his wish list, it's empty! The other half, it's all cat toys...
46, 47 I'm going to wish for the ability for people to understand phrases like There must have been some mix up. and to understand that undo is not always possible.
And to understand that there are more tools to use in this world than a hammer...
I just wanted a small update. Honestly, it's a fun feature and I hang nothing more on it than that at all. I don't read anything nefarious into the disappearance or reappearance of the feature. I just want to be able to know that, yes, someone else does read the same books I do! :)
even though they don't...
>46 Agreed. The problems and delays are all the more frustrating when members weren't even in favour of the change to begin with.
>48.
In my world (the glamorous, exciting world of SCM), undo is always possible, because every change is documented, and there's a clear history of what code went where. (as an aside: it's hilarious that for as simple and cheap it is to have good version control practices, there are still large financial organizations that don't maintain a stable baseline).
And I have two tools in my toolbox. Subversion and Perl. ;)
Don't understand computer language (actually monolingual = only speak English not computer) - this was a fun feature that linked me with people reading/wanting a book that I would like to see it back.
ETA - drunk; fumble fingered; hope to be coherent!
