As you may have heard, we are trying to find admins for the orphaned groups. This talk topic explains more: https://www.librarything.com/topic/328882
In short, the administrator can:
* Rewrite the group description
* Change basic group parameters, like whether the group is open or closed.
* Add and remove group pictures
* Create "pinned topics" that stick to the top of the group page
* Get notified when new members come to the group, so they can say hello, if they want to
* Open up the group for new admin applications and appoint new admins
Gothic Literature is one of our more active "orphaned" groups. Consider this an invitation to discuss how many admins you think the group needs and to volunteer yourself (or someone else!).

The creator of the group is still occasionally active, even if she doesn't post here anymore. For my part, I really like her description and would prefer not to have it meddled with, let alone removed.

>2 LolaWalser: Thanks. I can't see anyone listed as an administrator. Do you want to reach out to her and see if she wants to be the admin?

Ehh... I hope this won't be taken to be rude, but I'd rather not. I'm just guessing she has her own reasons she stopped posting in Talk and I'd prefer to respect her silence.
Can't she just be made admin automatically, being the creator? Because (again, speaking only for myself) I don't see why the group can't go on as it has all these years.

I'm a little confused here. The topic you linked says that one of the two criteria for classing a group as orphaned was having an administrator who has '... not used the site in at least six months.' Veilofisis enters books regularly and, indeed, last did so fifteen days ago. So how is this group orphaned?

I have been a lurking member in this group for several years. While I have not contributed a lot I have followed the threads regularly. I support the views of >2 LolaWalser: >4 LolaWalser: & >5 alaudacorax:. This is one of the most vibrant groups I have seen and is flowing along nicely just as it is.

See https://www.librarything.com/topic/328882#7393330
I added some groups where the user had not posted in any group in a year.
We are happy to have the old administrator, if that's what people want. Go to the group page and say that under "This group is looking for an admin." Someone should perhaps reach out to the user, however, to make sure they really want to be involved.

I've PM'd her. This might take a while, though, as perhaps she won't notice until she enters another book.

Is this something still needed here? I'm wondering since it was mentioned, but would a new admin mean things change? Could the group here stay as it is but with a new (sort of as needed) admin or does content put by the group creator need to come down?

I agreed with all the sentiments expressed above, basically that we don't need anyone to take over the group that Veilofisis created, not least because it would be taking it away from her, but also because past experience suggests that there's no requirement for an active administrator. We play nicely.
In the hypothetical situation of a new administrator being appointed, there would no requirement to remove the group creator's content.

Hello everyone,
It is me, very nearly a Gothic heroine in my own right, returning from my lengthy absence after reading alaudacorax’s comment about two months late. Blame it on the apocalypse and university madness!
For old friends: I’m graduating with an art history degree from UCSC this coming quarter and have been accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s MFA in Writing program! So things have been moving right along! I hope you all are well.
If the group is still in need of an admin, I’d be happy to accept the position. When I started this group years ago (has it been close to a decade now??), I never expected it to become such a lively place. It’s been really thrilling catching up on old threads, even if I’d missed alaudacorax’s comment by...two months...
Please let me know, everyone, how you’re doing! Via comment or otherwise. Given that this is a thread on admin stuff, however, I just want to reiterate that I’m willing to take on the post! I promise not to be a ghost moving forward (despite our chosen genre).
All peace to all of you,
Jourdain

>14 veilofisis: Hi Jourdain,
Great to see a post from you and congratulations on your degree and on joining the MFA Writing Program.
Keep well and enjoy yourself.

Helloooo, Jourdain! So great to see you. Please go to the Group page and click on the "looking for admin link" thingy on the right--I think that's all, it should notify The Powers and then they'll magically give you extra buttons and stuff.
Sadly the new format messes your super intro on the Group page. You'll be able to pin topics if you wish. Can't remember what else happens but it's more or less obvious.

I notice there are two submissions for admin of this group. Anyone want to tell me who they are?
19housefulofpaper
It wasn't me.
20LolaWalser
Not me!

Okay, I realise my last post was a bit abrupt, and, though it expressed my feelings quite concisely, told very little to anyone else. So:
Having said all that:
Welcome to the group! We're quite friendly, really—don't take an old curmudgeon like me as typical.
Okay, I realise my last post was a bit abrupt, and, though it expressed my feelings quite concisely, told very little to anyone else. So:
- It seems to me self-evident that a person who only joined LibraryThing a little over a month ago and who, at the time of writing, was the very last member to join this group would not make a suitable admin.
- The fact that you would even consider becoming our admin, given the above circumstances, makes me suspicious—no doubt wrongly, but still ...
- We already have an admin. The creator (some ten years or more ago) of this group has taken on the post and her name is up top there. Another one really isn't needed.

Agreed.
I've seen some posts by "BobReader" in the Folio Society group that make me wonder if they are not a sock puppet or troll account.
