Om mig I am the founder and lead developer of LibraryThing.
Om mit bibliotek My interests run to ancient history, Greek and Latin. So far I've done maybe 1/4-1/3 of what I have. Frankly, it's also gotten a bit mixed-up and redundant, as I use this account for testing. (There are a couple books I test out with, because I know they have certain fields or are in certain libraries.) That said, I've got a good chunk of my history, religion and archaeology in. Greek, Latin and novels to come....

I see you are giving a talk at Wikimania 2008. If you are not already planning to, could you perhaps talk about the possibilities of collaborative resource sharing specifically for Wikipedia, the use of groups such as http://www.librarything.com/groups/engli... to catalog all the books that Wikipedia editors have access to to use for resources?

I like most of the changes you've done with this app. But, in the process, a couple of thousand of my tags have vanished. Do you know of an easy/fast way to get them back, or should I begin to input them again?

Thanks for your rapid response.
The reason I inquired is that there is no "Your Home" on your site. Is that because you are one of the administrators?
Thanks, in advance,
Norman

Perhaps I wasn't very clear in my previous message.
I am NOT speaking of the tabs at the top of the screen which, on your Home page, are:
Home
Profile
Your Library
Tags
Add Books
etc.
I am speaking of the next line which, on your Home Page, are:
Profile
Recommendations
Reviews
Statistics
Clouds
Gallery
Find Friends
Blog Widgets
On my Home page, the second line starts with "Your Home" which I wish to delete since I already have the tab "Home" on the line above it.
How may I accomplish that?
I also wish to delete "Connections," as well.
Thanks, in advance,
Norman

I like what you've done to your new look.
How can I delete the "Your Home" on the second line of my new Home page?
Thanks, in advance,

The ROV scanner is a portable scanner that stores a lot of barcodes, and then dumps them in a bundle. My problem was mostly with the way it interacted at the USB level with my Mac, and I expect to resolve it in the next couple of days with a software solution. While using it via the serial cable on a work laptop, things went really well here on LibraryThing. I have a CueCat myself, although probably a pretty old one. (Then again, maybe they're all old now?) In any event, thanks very much for the offer. I hope to start using LibraryThing seriously over the next weeks, while finally unpacking my library. Extremely cool service you have, and apparently good service that you provide as well.

I saw that someone from LT is going to ALA, and it made me wonder: have you ever considered going to the World Science Fiction Convention? It seems that LT is fairly popular among SF readers. It's probably too late for this year (Denver in August) but who knows?
Just a thought....

(As an aside--sorry, I can't help it!--wouldn't it be nice if the work page showed us who had actually read the book recently, instead of just who had catalogued it? It wouldn't really help much for obscure books like this, but for more popular books it could be really useful. *Grin*)

I have never changed that from the 20 books on my page to suddenly 50 books to appear on one page, so I don't know how that happened, and did not even notice that suddenly there were 50 books on a page until you pointed that out! I just noticed that were were only 33 pages from the 83. So thank you for helping me discover something new here.
And change the page back to 20per.
Sincerely,
Robert McDonald

What happened to my library? Half of it disappeared. Out of 1,645 books, my catalogue suddenly stops at page 33, and everything after that does not appear!
Help on this one, please!

Okay, I will delete everything that I put on your website.
But I will leave it on for a day just to make a few points.
First, I was doing some testing as I do with all websites that I place material on. (I can assure that on websites like American Chroncile and Best Syndication that my material is welcome even though I place a few more self-serving links that most people.)
Second, you say that I have a library with 5 of my own books.
THAT IS A LIE!
Since when is The 4-Hour Work Week my book?
And since when is Living the 80-20 Way my book?
The reviews I placed for these two books are similar to the reviews that I placed on Amazon.com.
Third, two of my books I placed in my libary are no longer in print (the third was a Spanish book which likely sell no copies) For Off the Wall: Graffiti for the Soul, I placed almost half of the content of the book in the review and intended to place all of it there when I had the time. Likewise, I intended to place all of The Lazy Person's Guide to Happiness in as well as I give away a lot of my material. In fact, I have given away over 13,000 of my real books (to charities, libraries, etc.)
But if this is not in the spirit of your website, so be it!
I know that there will always be people (these are the losers with no real accomplishments in their lives) who are resentful of creative individuals who are successful.
They would be wise to pay heed to this advice from Joseph Marshall Wade:
"If I wanted to become a tramp, I would seek information and advice from the most successful tramp I could find. If I wanted to become a failure, I would seek advice from men who have never succeeded. If I wanted to succeed in all things, I would look around me for those who are succeeding, and do as they have done."
— Joseph Marshall Wade
I can assure you that I will be getting a lot more readership and sales for my books, which have now sold over 550,000 copies worldwide.
Just today I received this email:
Dear Mr. Zelinski,
At our financial organization, you are regarded as
somewhat of a celebrity. All of our Representatives
have read your book, How to Retire Happy, Wild and Free.
We now make it a practice to give this book out to our
clients on every financial planning appointment.
We would love the opportunity to speak with you
about a speaking engagement at our fall conference
in Dallas, TX. The dates for this conference are
September 17 & 18, 2008.
We would like to discuss what it would take to get
you to our conference, what type of presentation
you would like to do and the logistics involved.
Our President of Field Operations would like the opportunity
to contact you directly to discuss this possibility.
Please let me know how we may contact you.
In any event, there are a lot classier websites than The Libary Thing for me to place the entire content from several of my books on.
Just one more thing: Tim Ferris in The 4 Hour Work Week makes the point that over 95 percent of the 200,000 books published in North America every year will sell less than 5,000 copies. I have now written 15 books and 14 have sold over 5,000 copies. (The fifteenth one will sell over 5,000 copies once it is published in English.)
As Jack Canfield says, "Results don't lie."
So long for now.

have some of the more recent volumes. Of the ones you mention, I have read Wilcken
and share your view; I have not read Fox or Green. As I said in my review, of the
scholars I have read on the subject, I found Ernst Badian the most convincing, but
to my regret I don't own his work on Alexander -- I read it from a university library years ago.
