Om mig When I was in the 7th grade, I had a science teacher who taught me how to read for pleasure. I had always been an advanced reader--in the fifth grade I was reading at the 12th grade level--but I rarely read or the simple joy of it. Mr. Brakefield taught me how to go into the story, how to live it. So when Bilbo is trudging along with the dwarfs in the rain on the way to places unknown, I was there with him, cold and wet, tired and hungry.

I love reading and discussing what I've read so much that some 15 years after finishing college and graduate school (I am a counselor), I went back to school and finished a BA and MA in English. For my own enjoyment. Fortunately I work for a college where they allow you to do that sort of thing (and let you do it tuition free).

I read mostly science fiction, fantasy, and 19th and 20h century novels, but I'm open for just about anything that is well-written and has a good story.

Om mit bibliotek The books in this library are books that we actually own or have actually read (i.e. borrowed from a friend or checked out from the library). We have amazon.com for our wish list.

My books are tagged sc (for socialchild) and hers are tagged ks (for kithseeker). Where there is a dispute over who's book it is, you might find both tags. There are also children's books that would seem to belong to our kids, but whether or not they will get them when they grow up (if they will want them) is an open question. We had loads of children's books before we had any kids.

Most of the psychology and counseling books are from when I was in school in the late 80s and early 90s so they are a little dated. There are also lots of science fiction/fantasy books (some are first edition or first book club edition from the '50s that I got from my dad), and they represent my favorite genre. Almost all of the rest are books I've read and reference material I collected as a result of my English degrees.

The history and biography books are mainly my wife's, although there are a few that are mine. She has a lot of these kinds of books that are old old. Those are fun.

I thought about your comments, with the additional books making those with libraries similar to yours completely different from whom it had been. I thought about suggesting that you give the kids their own library, but then I remembered you would have to pay for it. Oh, well. Soon, those with libraries most similar to yours will be other like-minded partents, with well-read kids.

Well, I wrote a whole message, just to find that I'm not signed in. I did find out that we are now on each other's "Members With Your Books", thanks to your wife's books (mostly Calvin & Hobbes and For Better or For Worse). Her library is very eclectic. No surprise there.

Have you finished the kids' books?

I finished cataloging all the books in my living room. I have some books in the study and my bedroom, as well as some books in the basement. Now all I have to do is read them all. Ha.

This is a pretty cool site. I enjoy looking at some of the groups and seeing what other people own, how they tag them, and how they rate them. Although the rating system does worry me. What does it all mean? How can I rate a classic? How can I rate a textbook? Beyond that, I also really like looking at all the author pictures. Though I think the picture they label "Winston Churchill" isn't Churchill.

Did you enjoy Lost? I did. I think I liked last week's better, though this is the first Kate-centric episode where I didn't want to kill her.

I look forward to seeing Denise's books...

I guess I forgot about my "nickname". I should probably get a new one since the stupid RC died, but, honestly, I don't think I'll find a better screen name. I would have never guessed you were you without your picture. I stared at it, thinking, this guy looks familiar. It takes me a while.

I think I've been through more libraries than Alexandrian invaders. I still love fantasy, but I have found it hard to find good fantasy consistently. Plus, with all my moves, many books that I have loved have found themselves...left behind.

It was fun looking at your library, especially your old UM textbooks. I still have some textbooks of my own to input, but I'm not sure when that will happen. Maybe tonight, while Bruce watches the primary coverage.

I shall consider your definition of pop fantasy. I might argue that "The Hobbit" is pop fantasy. You don't have it on your list, I think, so I can't see how you categorized it.
