Om mig NOTE!!! THE LIBRARY CATALOGUED HERE HAS BEEN MOVED OVER TO ITS NEW HOME AT THE nautilus_library
This catalogue, the smellthecoffee library, will still be used for complimentary purposes still to be determined ...
I am a professional librarian in a public library system, and have both cataloguing and reference experience. I am also a professional DJ. I am partnering with a DJ colleague in a production company.
I am temporarily inactive as a performing DJ at the moment, but am involved in production and related activities with colleagues in Brooklyn, New Orleans, and Atlanta.
LATE BULLETIN! Having not found an LT group related to New Orleans I've just started one called "Crescent City Connection". The link is http://www.librarything.com/groups/cresc...
All welcome!
Om mit bibliotek NOTE!!! THE LIBRARY CATALOGUED HERE HAS BEEN COPIED OVER TO ITS NEW HOME AT THE nautilus_library
This catalogue (SmellTheCoffee) will be converted to other complementary purposes in (one hopes) the next few weeks, perhaps a wishlist or a "to get" or a recommended list...
(The profile below applies to the nautilus_library.
My library reflects most of my books and DVDs. I plan to add CDs and my collection of vinyl (i.e. "phonograph records", remember those?) mostly accumulated as a DJ. Some other formats are included, including, maps, document files (such as magazine and journal articles), and miscelaneous items.
Books are mostly in English but there are a growing number in Spanish and French as i read those languages.
The motley group of my interests that are reflected in my library, include (but are not limited to):
social and historical dynamics (ethnicity, class, wealth level, erotic orientation, etc.) from all perspectives, but with a special emphasis on Africentric analysis
New Orleans -- especially the PEOPLE of New Orleans whether back or still scattered against their will.
speculative fiction (esp. CJ Cherryh and Octavia Butler),
peoples' sociocultural dynamics as relates to their religious and spiritual manifestions -- 3 points of particular BUT NOT EXCLUSIVE interest include progressive Islam, the Rastafari movement, and Christian liberation theology,
Worship, liturgical, and artistic expressions, especially from a sociocultural perspective, and with a particular emphasis on daily patterns such as the daily office in Christianity and salat in Islam,
animal psychology and behaviour and animal rights,
languages, including particularly (but not exclusively) African, Creole, Celtic, and languages, mostly from a study overview perspective,
any computer books that will help my improve my novice web page design skills and database skills,
material about (and geared to) adults with Asperger Syndrome (of which i am one),
any random eccentric or oddball (and occasionally twisted) thing that catches my interest.
As vinyl and CDs are added the musical genres will be varied but strong in hip-hop, reggae (roots, lovers rock, dancehall), house and other dance genres, latin (esp. salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, latin house, latin pop), as well as jazz, Black gospel music (esp. the 70s and 80s), Western art music ("classical" music), and quite a bit of other miscellany.

I recently joined the All Books Africa Group. As a publisher who has just released a novel about the Angolan Civil War, I thought it might be worth bringing to your attention. Ondjaki's Good morning Comrades has just been released (indeed, i'm not sure amazon has changed it status yet). Ondjaki is a Lusophone writer of international reputation, and our edition of Good morning Comrades introduces him to an English speaking audience for the first time. It will not be the last: Aflame Books in the UK is set to release his fable The Whistler, and I know New Directions is also looking at publishing something by him soon. We expect he will become one of the most celebrated African novelists of his generation.
Anyway, if you would like further information on Comrades, you can chcekc out our website at www.biblioasis.com. It is also available online on amazon and elsewhere, and available through any good bookstore.
Thansk for your time, and I do hope that this was not too intrusive. (We're a small literary press based in Canada, and we're just trying to do whatever we can to let potential readers know about the book.
Best wishes,
Dan Wells

Thanks so much for the comment and starting the group!
I see we're both fans of animal behavior and rights! Very interesting!
Hope to talk soon!
