YndlingsbibliotekerMid-Continent Public Library

Om mit bibliotekI read mostly from our wonderful local public library. The books in the "your library" collection are books I've experienced, not necessarily books I physically own. The books in "to read" and "currently reading" are also included in "your library". These are books that are currently in my possession and available to be read - the few I own plus the books currently checked out of the library.

Any books that I do own are also in the "owned books" collection. However, most of the books in that collection are "reference" books that are not necessarily read from cover to cover. "Reference" books are not generally included in "your library".

Sometimes I begin a book and decide not to finish it. That book becomes "abandoned". If a library book must be returned before I can read it, it turns into a "try again" book if I'm still interested, or is simply deleted if I've changed my mind about wanting to read it. There are only a couple of overlaps between these two collections - books I didn't want to finish when I had them, but might want to try again later.

Everything I have read has a star rating. Star ratings are a very subjective measurement of my reactions to a book at a given time based on my expectations of it, my mood, and maybe the phase of the moon. I do tend to be stingy with stars, and 3-1/2 stars is a positive rating.

All the books I've read since joining LT are in "your library". Previously read books are added as I re-discover or are reminded of them, and are tagged.

I just added 2 new categories. After seeing a comment from VisibleGhost who said she has separate categories for highly rated books, I decided to do the same. Any book whose overall rating is 4.0 or higher, and is rated by 100 or more people are in the "Odds Are" category. "Odds are" that you and I will like it. For those books that are still 4.0 or higher after being rated by 500 or more people, there are "Overwhelming Odds" that we will also like the book.

Reminder: The Missouri Readers will start discussing The Death of Sweet Mister by Daniel Woodrell next Monday (12/28)! Come visit with your questions and comments!

Merry Christmas, Sandy!!
Oh, I rarely read "classics" anymore so I didn't do any group reads last year. I think there might've been a Bleak House read, which I would've enjoyed.

On 12/26, I think I will get to that Missouri reads book and hopefully, soon thereafter, will finish my 999. I'd love to have a week to just lounge around, maybe read an A book or two.
This is really odd. All I can think of is that one of your books is out or else it's not an immediate ship book.

I hope they're not lost.

What group reads are you doing? I think I am doing Dorian Gray and Moby Dick, for January. Three Musketeers is for Feb, I think.
Thanks so much for your comment - it's a fascinating novel, hope you enjoy it all the way through!
Did you ever get your Santa Thing books?
You've added enough books to my wishlist, so I'm very happy to occasionally return the favor. A Death in Belmont is very interesting, by the way.
sandy....I joined the 1010 challenge and will join the 75 challenge (even tho I know I can and will read over 100 I like the folks on 75 a lot, and want to stay and chat with them). I also plan to be a bit more active on the Presidential challenge, but not too much. I joined that one more to get ideas for what to read than to have great deep political discussions. I think with all the challenges within the 1010 I've set up, I'll be plenty busy....

On a break for the moment--must run up to the town library to remail a form (copy is in the file up there) that Maine State says they never got :-(

Then by the time I get back, I big report I'm running for WORK should be done, and I'll be able to wrap up my project so we can hang pretties on the tree tonite.

BTW, my 'jammies' are of the 'Maine cocktail'jammie variety (i.e., flannel pants, sweat shirt, shawl)---I change into them for the day when I wake up.

That'll give the peepers something to scratch their heads about!!!

Have a good work day. Tina
I snuck a peek and noticed that your books weren't ordered til Sunday. Maybe you'll get them today but, more likely, tomorrow.

Went to dr and all my numbers were the same or slightly improved, thanks to that program. I wanted big improvements but she (dr) was pleased nonetheless. She did say I shouldn't be so wimpy and should get out and walk, despite the cold, as long as it's not slippery.

Also got an H1N1 shot, while I was there.
I added Scottsboro to my wishlist some time ago based on your review. Thanks for recommending it! I think it's one of the best books I've read this year.
Hope you're asleep and don't see this until tomorrow LOL---I actually work from home (often in my jammies). I have moderate to sometimes severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I'm often very stiff and sore in the morning. Evenings are when everything 'works' better. So I sleep in until I feel like getting up, and then do what needs to be done as I get 'unstiff.' Great to chat with you---have a great holiday. I'm now officially excited about 2o1o1o1o1....or whatever it is.

ps...it's taking a good sized spreadsheet to track all this, but now that it's set up, I'm good to go.
I'm on a roll....I have to work (like real earn money work) all day tomorrow and I wanted to finish my David McCullough audio, then needed to help hubbie rip a Donna Leon to his MP3--I got him hooked too. And then I just finally figured out how to approach all this huge TBR pile, arc, challenges, etc, so I'm striking while the iron is hot. I always have trouble getting images into LT threads, so since I've got it dowwn, I can't quit now....
Hi: My Santa Thing books arrived today and no way was I going to wait til Christmas to open. Great choices!! I got the Silent Night book I'd wanted. It's about the World War 1 Christmas truce. There's also a book about Abe Lincoln. Best of all, I'd say, is the book about the Florence art disaster, which is perfect for both my interest in disaster books and my emerging interest in art/architecture books. I'd never heard of that one. I think it's called Dark Water.

The timing was perfect. I heard today about the death on Sunday of my dearest friend's father. He was 96 and had a full life but, even so, I was definitely sad all day. Another odd occurrence but Mr M's only surviving sibling, his 94 year old little brother, passed away today, the very next day.
Hi There

I went to post a message to Stasia and read your message. I'm simply stopping by to say I couldn't agree with you more!

Amen!

Hugs and Happy Holidays.
