Dear Rob: I'm afraid the Blind Willie Johnson book is pretty much a waste of money. I hate to discourage an author, but this is pretty much an expensive fanzine sort of thing. The Columbia/Legacy CD 2CK 52835, The Complete Blind Willie Johnson, notes by Sam Charters are better, and you get the music too. David Evans notes on Yazoo CD 1078 are good too. Lyrics are to be found in Bob MacLeod book Yazoo 21-83; Blakey's book is mainly lyrics with filler. It's pretty expensive, too, though I didn't note the exact price. However, since I've got almost all the 78s, LP reissues, and mainstream CDs, I suppose it's worth it to me. The guitar explication is not anything to be raving about either, although from what I remember this guy is basically a guitar player who pursued his mania, so maybe it would be of more interest to those who don't happen to specialize in the field, and are more or less just starting out. Unfortunately, if you're a guitarist, the music is neither written out in tab or regular notation. Sorry to have to be so discouraging, but this isn't a must have or must read book. Roger PS: since you have to order this online, and it seems to be published on order, I doubt you'll find it even used unless you really look, so get it if you need to complete something, or else try to read it through interlibrary loan.

Rob, I joined your group because I have so many hymnbooks of all kinds and thought others might be interested in exchanging. Many of mine were gathered by my mother, so are pretty old. Anyone is welcome to look.
