Om mig My name is Carolyn and I’m single in the city. Like a great majority of the users on this site I love reading books. Books are like an addiction of sorts for me. When given the choice, I will buy books at the store because a lot of what factors into my decision to purchase a book, aside from the storyline, content or author, is the way the book looks; the cover art, the text type, the page layout, the number of pages, and the size of the book. Superficial I know but like I said, it’s an addiction and most addictions don’t make a lot of sense. Buying books in the store gives me that rush of immediate gratification. By the time I get home, I struggle with bouts of regret at having spent $15 on yet another paperback book – don’t like hard covers and don’t like $6.99 paperbacks. Obsessive-compulsive, no? Anyway, as of late, I’ve been stalking the bookstores, writing down the ISBN numbers and then logging on to Half.com to see if I can find the same book for .75 cents. No immediate gratification but when you get the book, it’s in great condition and you realize you just saved enough to buy two more books? Well that’s just priceless.

I’m usually reading at least three books at a time. First and foremost, my bible devotional – Greatest Stories of the Bible by Philip D Patterson. First thing in the morning and last thing at night. The Alpha and the Omega. While I’m reading that, I’m usually also reading a non-fiction book and a fiction book. The non-fiction books challenge me to become the person that I want to be and educate me about people and life. The fiction books allow me to escape the professional career life and get lost in another world. So how do I manage to read three books at one time? Well, I love series books so what better way to make a book into a series than to read a little bit at a time?

Om mit bibliotek I like Christian books as you can see but I specifically like bible stories, the application of bible stories and the fictional retelling of bible stories. Lately, I’ve been getting into African American Literature. I’ve found a great Christian publisher, Walk Worthy Press, who is “dedicated to showing, through books, how the Word of God in the Bible can be applied to every area of our daily lives.” Finally, I like Chick Lit. I’m a sucker for a romantic comedy both on the big screen and on the small page.

After I’ve read the books on my list, they end up in one of two places depending on whether I liked the story or the message. If I like the book, it ends up in my book case with a promise to be read again at some point in time. If I don’t like the book? Well you just might find it on sale on Half.com for .75 cents… in pristine condition of course (again with the obsessive-compulsiveness).
