Om mig I am a recently retired academic librarian, an avid gardener, a health enthusiast, an environmentalist, and a long-distance road cyclist.

I'm happily married to an aviation buff and fellow long-distance road cyclist...but always have plenty of time for new, like-minded book friends.

I love LibraryThing because it allows me to review all the books I've read in one place. I do not collect books. I frequently buy books, but end up giving them to libraries knowing that I can always go back to the library and read them again. In the meantime, the library can shelve them, dust them, and circulate them to other book lovers. My personal library remains small, but my potential access to all books is vast. As emeriti faculty, I have lifetime, easy, digital access to interlibrary loan, and thereby to virtually any book, anywhere in the world.

When I become aware of a new title that I want to read (from a review, from a conversation with a friend, etc.), it is so easy to add it to my "Wishlist" tag on LibraryThing. In this way, I make certain that I will not forget about it. In today's world, I am always near a computer that is connected to the Internet, so it is easy to get into LibraryThing and update my profile at any time. Also, browsing through the catalogs of like-minded LibraryThingers gives me ideas for new books to read. Their reading lists often inspire me to try something I might not have otherwise thought about reading. I find it especially useful when LibraryThingers rate and/or review their books. I am trying to do this with all my books.

I am very impressed with the high quality community of book lovers I find on LibraryThing. Because of LibraryThing, I find that I am reading more often.

Om mit bibliotek I am trying to record all the books that I have ever read for pleasure. I am not including books that I read for research or academic study purposes.

Hi Barbara,
I love your library and your thoughtful and thought-provoking reviews, which is why I've asked that you be added to my interesting libraries collection. LT is such a wonderful site. I am delighted to have a place to catalogue the books I've read and wanted to read. I've finally been able to organize all the notes I've amassed about books I want to read. I've been horrified too often to bring books home and find that I remember reading them only after I have begun to read them again - at last a way to know if I've already read them.

Hi Barbara,

Don't worry, you've been given a pass on The Spirit of the Place. I talked to the publisher recently -- apparently it took her much longer than she thought to package, address, and mail out the books (she had several hundred to do all at once). So the last of them only just went out, or are going out now. The gist of it is that you truly are still getting a copy -- it'll just be somewhat late. And don't worry, it won't count against you (as you can already see - you received an April book!)

Best,
Abby
The March books are still trickling in -- sometimes they really do take over a month to get there, depending on how quickly the publishers get them out, and how they choose to mail them (ie, media mail takes *forever*). So, you're not alone. I'd give it another week or two... Sorry!

Abby
Barbara, Thank you so much for your kind comment! I've added you to my interesting libraries as well :) It is always such a pleasure to meet another reader with similar likes. I hope you will love The Cellist of Sarajevo as much as I did. I look forward to reading your review.

Barbara,
I have not been in Library Thing for a while - it got very busy at work and I slowed down a bit.
I just got your comment to me about Castle Freeman's "Go With Me" and I thank you so much. I love your review. Everything you wrote makes sense. I finished the book a while ago yet still remember the characters and the story.
I am still new to this so my reviews remain a bit more personal. I enjoyed your more analytical approach. I want to read the book again with your comments nearby!
I also work in an academic library - I run the Circulation Desk and supervise our student workers. I often bring work home and have precious little time for pleasure reading, but aim to remedy that situation over the summer.
Again, I enjoyed your review and hope to talk more once I get more accustomed to this site and writing reviews of my own!
Amy
