I could recommend 'The Assault' by Harry Mulisch as a very good Dutch read.

Also, looking at your list (which is inspiring!), I see you have read Jane Gardam. I really like her writing and can recommend 'Old Filth', which I read a year or so ago. Probably appealed to me because it was very 'English' in tone and reflection. She is very talented, IMO.

The Geraldine Brook book has also been nagging at me in the store. I am glad to see you gave her a 5 - I must get that one too.
