hi harry!
LOVE THE PIC!
You're welcome! Strong opinions are good to have, it sure beats apathy. Anyway, i'll get off your case now ;-D

And welcome to Hogwarts Express! It really is a great, friendly group.
wow! like that picture!

Well, I don't usually have these type of discussions, but there's always a first time. What i was most curious about was your statement "pullman's books are about killing God". As i mentioned, i didn't think that the [His Dark Materials] trilogy was essentially about killing God. There is a strong argument that the entity posing as God in the book was not God at all (after all, he ages, is not omnipitent, omniscint, infallible, etc). Also, i found the character that leads the war against "God" to be very unsympathetic - i'd certainly call him evil.

I assume that you have read Pullman's books? Otherwise this could be a lopsided discussion ;-D

Whether or not the books are about killing god, i also find it a little concerning when people warn others off certain books. If the writing is bad or the ideas are without merit, that's fair enough. But if it's because a book doesn't conform to a certain belief structure, that rings alarm bells for me. I think that it's important that people share different views, ideas, opinions. We don't have to agree by any means, but we need to respect other people's opinions, and let people form their own views. Ignorance is not bliss. Also, book banning is close to the edge of that slippery slope, and at the bottom is book burning, or even author burning.

BTW, it's actually 2am where i am right now, so i'm going to have to call it a night. But leave me a message, or post on the thread that foggidawn provided, and i'll check it out tomorrow. 'Night!
