Om mig I learned to read at age 2, and pretty much never stopped.

It is what made me a geek and set me apart from other children. It opened my mind and showed me places and perspectives I would otherwise never have known. It connected me with my mother and grandmother, as I inherited the reading and writing genes from them. It taught me words to help me beat them in Boggle and Scrabble. A book was this lonely child's constant companion.

Reading is my anti-drug. It makes my bad days bearable and my good days spectacular. It comforts me when I can't sleep, and keeps me awake even as one corner of my mind frets about falling asleep at my desk the next day. I finish a book and I feel excited or drained or inspired or disappointed, but always, always hungry for the next one.

There are times in my life when I have forsaken reading. I was too busy or tired, or I was playing a new video game, or I was hanging out with my friends all the time, or I was just embarrassed by my obssession or made to feel ashamed for how much I spent on books or losing myself in a bookstore. But I always come back to my first geeky pursuit, my original comfort, my first friend. I always return to reading, and it always welcomes me back.

Om mit bibliotek My books fall into three basic categories: books I've read and own, books I've read but do not own, and books that I want to read.

I spent a long time not keeping track of my books, but I've begun again for two main reasons: first, to actually remember what I have and have not read, and second, to maintain a reading list so that I can cure myself of wandering around bookstores or libraries muttering "what book was that again?" or "so what am I going to read now?". I bought a lifetime membership to librarything almost 2 years ago - I might as well use it.

Hi Golden_lady,
I love the way you write about books,I feel the same way,but I've never put them down. We share 33 books which are some of my favorites.
Several times I've kept lists of books I've read and one or two words about tale only to get tired and put it down. Of course now I have a computer to keep track and I started a list had three pages when I saved it and came back and couldn't open it. foiled again. My sister is a reader but now she depends on me for recommendations because she wants every book to be a home run. She's haveing problems with one eye which is improving but doesn't want to waste time.
I wish I had made more comments in posting my books like others have done.
Enjoyed reading your profile
