Om mig Hello - I'm Katie from Texas. In my free time, I can be found doing two things: knitting and reading (and watching television, but that's usually while knitting). Throughout the year, I have a hard time balancing my activities; I usually knit like a mad woman and read nothing or vice versa. I'm working really hard at dividing my time equally between the two.
I see that I'll have a chance a little later to discuss my reading practices, so instead I'll talk a little bit about my knitting. I started knitting in November of 2004 by teaching myself from a "Learn to Knit" Kit from a craft store. It took an incredibly long time to actually learn how to do the knit and purl correctly, but by gosh, I finally got it! I tend to knit mostly socks and shawls, but am hoping to make a sweater soon.
I live with my boyfriend and my dog and we're all dreaming of a life in New England... we'll see about that though.
I'm participating in the 50 Book Challenge; my challenge thread can be found here.
Om mit bibliotek I have a fairly eclectic library. I really enjoy reading feminist fiction/nonfiction - most notably in my collection would be books by Margaret Atwood and about Eleanor Roosevelt, although I'd love to read more authors or about other successful women. I also have a soft spot for classic literature, although I don't/have not read as much as I would like. Another genre I like is thriller/mystery: Kate Atkinson, Agatha Christie, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, etc.
The books I have listed on LT only contain the works that I actually own. I do not add books that I've checked out from the library or borrowed from a friend - it just helps me keep my collection straight, that's all :)

Hi again! Of course you can pick my brain about the UNT SLIS program. You might also want to check out some of the threads on the Librarians who Librarything board-there are a few threads about being in school and considering it.
As for what they look for in their program-the folks at UNT really value a diverse background from their students. So, any major you had as an undergrad is useful for them-obviously, there are lots of English, History and Education majors (there's also a big school librarian program there), but there were also a few business majors and biology majors (like yours truely). A less-than-stellar undergrad GPA is forgiven by decent GRE results.
If you have more questions (which I'd be tickled to answer), email might be more efficient. My email address is kaelirenee@hotmail.com. Good luck with your admissions!
