Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter 25 / 100 (25.0%)

I have never made it to read a hundred books in a year, but the years I came closest to it were 1991 (92 books), 1993 (63 books), 2000 (62 books) and 2006 (74 books).

Om mit bibliotek Anyone who is deprived of life's contingencies, that is, of the experience of the companionship of good books, cannot possess perfect judgement (even if this judgement is a natural gift). -- Vasari, The Lives of the Artists (1568)

I did get rid of many, many books when we moved to South Carolina. The Oxfordshire Cats Protection League were very happy. England is an excellent place to be a homeless housepet (or any animal, really. There was a hedgehog rehabilitation unit a few miles away.)

Anyway, I'll upgrade to a paid account as soon as I manage to get a few more dozen books into my listings.

I see that you read in Dutch and German. Has BookMooch been useful there? I love dark European crime novels and there is a much larger selection in German than English. Also, I can justify reading them as, being in German, they are educational.

What did you think of V.S. Naipaul's "A Bend in the River"? That's my favorite of his. I have such a hard time believing that he is a cranky old man who alienates almost everyone he comes into contact with.
