Om migExactly sixty years ago, in 1949, Wolverhampton Wanderers won the FA Cup with this team:
Back row: Billy Crook, Roy Pritchard, Bert Williams, Bill Shorthouse, Terry Springthorpe.
Front row: Johnny Hancocks, Sammy Smyth, Stan Cullis, Billy Wright, Jesse Pye, Jimmy Dunn and Jimmy Mullen.
Fifty years ago, in 1959, Wolves became Champions of England for the third time.
Today, the 18th April 2009, the team won promotion back to the Premier League after a five year absence.
Wolves campaign to be bottom of the Premier League by Christmas grows ever more convincing. A one-nil home defeat to local rivals Birmingham City was achieved with a performance of such outstanding ineptitude that had it been twice as good it would have almost been abysmal.

The star system indicates how much I personally enjoyed the experience of reading it at that time. It is emphatically not a measure of the quality of the book itself; sometimes books chime with your mood or circumstance - sometimes they jar.
Ideally, I enjoy a melancholic book in a melancholic mood, but the realities of domestic, social and familial responsibilities, work and fatigue all intervene.
Om mit bibliotekMy library is almost exclusively paperbacks and predominantly those you might think of as popular literary novels. I add to my library unimaginatively from Waterstones but also from charity shops, where it's fun to browse because you never know what you are going to find. Over a decade ago I had a, now much regretted, purge of my library in a futile gesture of self-sacrifice. Ah, life! I haven't yet replaced the Dostoyevsky, Nabakov and Solzhenitsyn.
