Noticed you liked The Virgin Suicides, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Sigh, it's me being wonky, and not changing the text on the message before sending it out. It should read "this month" instead of "Random House bonus batch".
Yaaay!

Thank you for joining 20-Something LibraryThingers!
I actually ran across it in a bookstore in Norfolk, VA that was slowly going out of business. It was in a side shelf of manuscripts and such. I am an amateur folklorist and a professional storyteller, and especially enjoyed the sayings related to "saving face" and "cracking a smile". Anything that deals with the history of words and sayings has my immediate attention. I own a 1911 and a 1914 sets of Enc. Brittanica and the complete uneabridged oxford dictionary of the english language....23 vols. I think?....Grew up in a monastery, so the roots and beginnings of words and languages are fertile ground for me.

Funk (of Funk & Wagnall fame) has a trio of books about sayings and word histories that are quite nice, a lot of fun to read.

So how do you like library thing? It's wonderful for me. I work in a public library and can instantly access any of my titles (you may have noticed a rather wide ranging landscape of topics!) and in many ways far superior to anything the library has to use.

well, have to go, time for desk duty!!
I find it interesting that you and I seem to be the only two people in all of library thing to own Puttin' On The Dog...A potpourri of Colonial Sayings...Eclectic and unusual...we bibliophiles, eh?
I've started a group thats dedicated just to discussing HP and the Deathly Hallows. its called HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS ONLY. We could all post about the last book there so that is will be contained and we won;t have to worry as much aobut spoilers. Join when you finish the book.
I saw that we share an interest in poetry. I thought you might get a kick out of my book Anarchy Bell. It's unlike any poetry book you've ever read, I can guarantee it. It's viewable at Suburban Fiction.com
